Hello from Australia. It is very heartening to see your state repairing the water cycle and soil in this way. We would do well to follow from your example.

very clever use of string and sticks. Great low-tech techniques to measure things. Very systematic approach too, to avoid waste and to measure outcomes.

The addition of deep dry wells with a lot of void would compliment this very well.

They commit a blunder while construction those buns. There should have been a slight gentle dip in the middle of the bun for easier water pass over the bun and not push and damage it. These types of buns are not meant to block waters but rather to slow down the flow of water and allow water to percolate and arrest erosion.

You are so correct. It is a sophisticated skill and young ITI graduates should be interned in its making. More films on all types of dam brush wood onwards must be made available in local context for better land use and management.

Would it be better to put a low point in the middle of the the structure to allow oversplill rather than washing away the sides? This would need some rocke to act as scouring on the downslope. Looks very steep, a lot of potential energy there.

There's a major flaw in this design: the top should be curved so the middle is lower than the ends to prevent overflow water from undermining the ends of the structure. The difference in height between the ends and the center should be determined by the amount of flow that the stream gets to be sure the difference is great enough. A lesser flaw is that the foundation should be set in gravel pounded firmly, with more gravel filling between the boulders. Additionally, the slope of the downward side should be shallower if the slope of the waterway is steep. This makes it surer to withstand collapse from erosion at the structure's base. This can be enhanced by seeding a suitable clover or similar groundcover plant on the downstream side in order to trap sediment at the base.

The idea is not to stop the water but substantially slow down and arrest erosion.
