I know you get a lot of flak about your leader videos- but I honestly believe this information is more important than your fly rod. If you’re fishing the wrong leader, that expensive fly rod will not fish it potential. Thank you Brian

I understand the mechanism with fly fishing .... Stiffness, fly line bounces off rod, rod length etc. Thank you for the video, because the companies and products can be overwhelming at times

Recalling a Dave Whitlock lesson from his 1985 VHS. I was looking into the physics of a whip, as I remember Dave talking about always using a fly when practicing fly casting. The fly keeps the tippet from whipcracking, or going supersonic. Sounds odd, but the top of a car's tire is traveling as twice as fast as the car, or it is both attached to the car, and making up for its position in space before it turns to contact the road, logical geometry. So, as the line/leader unrolls, acceleration accompanies that action of the loop unfolding with progressively supple line, but the fly puts the brakes on, striking a balance between authoritative-delivery and presentation-finesse. A stiff section of leader seems to deliver a wind-resistant dry fly, or massive fly with ease. A stiff section of leader seems to deliver a longer leader with ease. A stiff section of leader/tippet seems to throw a wider, more wind-knot-resistant loop. After I watched Brian's earlier videos on leaders, I knew that I had to step-up my game when it came to leaders, and tippet; thank you Brian Flechsig! Making hand-tied leaders, and spending many hours in the backyard experimenting, I've been able to push the limits on the shortest of rods, use in the tightest, overgrown, spaces that you could imagine. Now, I could walk into a bar, and cast a 14-foot hand-tied leader to hit the bulls-eye on a dart board with a bow-and-arrow-cast and size 18 goofus bug, without disturbing someone playing pool, nearby, or getting hung-up on the lamps hanging from the ceiling! I've become super confident fishing creeks that barely hold a population of trout, or tributaries that are identified by name on a map, all because of experiments conducted with different monofilament leader-formulas in the backyard.

Great instruction. Question. In making the connection between the butt section and mid-section, should that be a blood knot? What about the midsection to the tippet? Tippet ring ok? Thanks!

Surreal, I was literally agonizing over this very topic this weekend for bass and crappie fishing on a 6 or 5 wt rod. Previous attempt led me to a 4X Cortland tapered 7.5-ft leader, but a 0X Cortland 7-ft streamer leader seems much more appropriate. I might reach out to see if I can change out what leader I bought from MRO over the weekend 😊.

No mention of tippet rings or a micro swivel to attach the tip it. Not a fan of chewing up my fly line unnecessarily for just a little extra turnover, please clarify thanks

I find it interesting that you prefer clear over chameleon. I have always thought they were about the same stiffness. The difference being the clear is a softer material. That makes the chameleon more durable. Could you explain the difference in more detail? I was going off of an article that said that they were interchangeable from about 15 years ago. if I remember right, it was from TU.

Not sure I got how you link the butt section diameter to your fly line. For example what diameter butt for a #6 line? Any ideas?
