This video needs to be featured on the main page. It really does. It at least deserves to come up in the search better.

I live in a container in Amsterdam. It's reallllly really good. I've seen them building the building opposite me... so quick! Perfect for student housing.

I live in central Canada, where it dips down to -50C (-66F) for at least a week each winter. That's not just obnoxiously cold, that's dangerously cold. That's so damn cold any exposed skin can freeze in 2 minutes or less. . Yet, the container homes here stood strong. I personally know one person who lives in a container house, I've even spent time in it during -40 or so. Believe it or not they actually insulate extremely well, and they hold up to even the worst conditions.

Hi Jose, I am an Engineer In Practice. Currently, we also working on a 3story 1500sft campus building extension project with limited budget. Could you provide me some information of what kind of structure you used? Were there any foundation required? How would you do structure analysis of it? Best

A great idea! But let's be honest: at the end of the day, these shipping containers end up as something absolutely different, since to make them suitable for their new usage one has to substantially contribute to their construction and invest enough money to make them look and feel like shown in the video.

Just as with normal houses, your sound insulation is based more on your insulation than your actual structure. . With a layer of 3mm cork glued to the interior of the container, followed by a layer of cellulose insulation, you honestly wouldn't hear construction noise going on right next door. With a container you can completely insulate all surfaces for vibration (noise) without any spots blocking your insulation (thus leaking sound in) something you can't say for a house unless you're building

You can get pre-insulated containers that are used for shipping food stuffs. Regular containers can also be insulated fairly easily.

What kind of paint finish do these containers have that the life is substantially lengthened? Shipping containers can have a pretty hard life, at the end of which they're not much good for anything as they're often rusty old boxes. Using "single pass" containers are a better option though, as they're often in good condition. Christchurch, New Zealand had a whole centre of the city built out of containers after the big earthquake and thousands of subsequent earthquakes hit the city in 2011.

When I built my restaurant myself in 1972, four buble fixed windows were not operable like these. I like operable windows much better. then I designed container housing for 10 & 30 story high-rise apartment buildings,I used the sky greenhouse for each dweller on his floor. built over the bullet train tracks. I called it Great Wall Village, after the Great wall of China. KZbin: georgewu5,housing George Wu, AIA 2012-11-3

No 1.2 million is with fully functioning electricity, windows in, building fully finished, the cost of the crates its probably about $5000 each, the other 20,000 being spent on the other building materials and labour.

QUESTION: - What about Lighting..? Has this caused any issues with lighting hitting these metal containers.? What safety factors have been put into place for preventing everyone from getting electrocuted ??
@JeffDeWitt
@JeffDeWitt 10 жыл бұрын
What's the difference between one of these and any other steel building? Actually lightning would hit the outside of the building and go to ground, hardly effecting the occupants at all.

That's not true. In that case they would be like gigantic freezers in cold climates. They have to be properly insulated just as any home should be according to the climate they are in.
