That really bring me back. I worked on an entertainment vessel for ten years. It was the greatest job I ever had...and the best time of my life. Nighttime, dusk and dawn were the best times overall. Once your eyes adjust to the pitch black sky, stars, planets and the entire section of the Milky Way galaxy we were able to see, became as bright and visible as a cloud would be during the daytime. Also, we saw every type of aquatic life imaginable...huge pods of dolphins, sharks, basking sunfish, breaching and/or feeding humpback whales and jellyfish by the tens of thousands at times. There really are no words to describe how peaceful and incredible it is out there on the ocean...a person would have to experience it out there themselves, in the darkness of night to really get a sense of what it's like. Great volg...i just subscribed~

I’m glad I bumped into your channel. It’s perhaps more than a coincidence that it popped up in my KZbin feed. You see, my father was vice president and general manager of Southeastern maritime company in Savannah, Georgia years ago. It was a stevedoring company. He never talked much about what he did, except near the end of his life, he developed a maritime accounting system back in the 1930s in Cuba. It subsequently became the one that was used internationally for a long time, and may still be in use today. When we were kids, our family was invited to have these incredible seven-course meals with the captain and other officers. I was always fascinated by the sea and ships. And that was in the 1960s, before containers and container ships. I’ve always wondered what it was like to be a member of the crew on a freighter and I’m grateful that you will be the conduit.

This brought back memories. Back in the late 90s we bought three of these ships and converted them to RO/RO cargo ships. We gutted the ship aft of the focsl all the way back to the superstructure. We yanked off the the superstructure at the main deck, and extended the ship about 100 feet aft of the house to make room for a stern ramp. The cargo holds were fitted with hoistible decks and ramps. We also slapped on a couple sideports at midship to complete the roll on/roll off capibilty On the main deck we added two massive twin pedestal craines. ( we scrapped the old stores gantry) and added another stores crane aft of the house. The engine room and auxiliaries remained the same for the most part. We even kept the same door for shaft alley. We added an elevator just in front of the mane engine going all the way up to the 06 level. I could go on and on, but seeing that engine room sure brought back memories of many sleepless nights during sea trials. LOL
