thats a difficult one...for video i would say: - my hellios 44-2 58 mm lenses for there character . -the underrated canon 24-105 mm f3.5-f5.6 IS AF ,so cheap and freaking versatile and sharp as knife ---> i use it for astrophotography as well ,due to the sharpness grtzz from the netherlands johny geerts

This lens is great for landscape. I also have the 50mm f1.7 and that is a good lens as well but there is something magical about the colours from the 28mm that works very well for landscapes. Greens and blues come through very vibrant.

My absolute favorite lens of all time, and I own A LOT of lenses. Out of all my Canon L lenses, I would still go to this one every time. Image is organic, and very detailed but not clinically sharp. The colors are amazing. It isn't that it is very saturated, it is the micro contrast that is absolutely superior. It is able to resolve very fine differences in hue and saturation, the image is so "alive", I can feel the skin tones like with no other lens. I have another really interesting lens with amazing details and an organic look, the Mamiya Apo Sekor 350mm, a monster of a lens with an incredible capacity to resolve details and colors, but Zeiss is just superb. One piece of advice, if you shoot on a Canon camera, try to find a Leitax adapter, it keeps the lens firmly aligned to the mount.

My favorite lens of all time is the Leica R 28mm f2.8 version 2. This is a 1990’s Leica R, and I find it to be the perfect balance between vintage and modern. It has this green goodness to it, where other vintage glass is too magenta. If you ever get the chance to try the Leica R go for it. There is something very special about the Leica’s skin tones and roll off. I like the 28mm version 2 so much that I wish to get it rehoused as a cinema lens one day, that’s the dream

I love a good 28mm on s35. Like you, i find it probably the most versatile focal length for that sensor size. My go-to is currently a SLR Magic 32mm APO Microprime. Stunning images with that thing.

Awesome ! I'm just following your path, i recently got FD lenses. I only understand now why it may be great to shoot with manual focus only. When you got a lens that provides emotions, the shooting experience is just as important than the footage you get.

@@ppulkkinen5308 That is one big hassle. Using Canon FDs on Canon EF mount is not as straight forward. The easiest is to modify your FD lenses and then it's super smooth.

Contax 25mm 2.8 AE is my favourite at the moment. I use it full frame or cropped on my Panasonic S5. I also have the 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4 and 200mm 3.5 all are AE lenses so they have the ninja star iris but I’ve not found it to be an issue yet. Great review!

In Canada this is over half the price of an SLR Magic APO Prime but was curious if you think the extra would be worth it or would the Contax be a good option for now. Just curious on your thoughts? Hey, thanks for watching !! I love my 18mm, mine is actually modded so it has an EF mount. This is the only one in my kit that is modded. For the rest I use the Fotodiox adapters :).

I actually like the 28mm 2.8 more than the f2.0! While the 2.0 is closer to a super speed in design I felt the 2.8 had a better 3D depth rendering. Things feel alive layered while the 2.0 felt like more compressed almost more like they do on a telephoto. But to each their own!

So prior to getting my Zcam my EF l series primes were my favorites. especially the 50 1.2. I am really struggling to think of what to get for my Zcam and have looked at Contax/ Zeiss though I am also looking at samyang and Canon FD I like a fair amount of character and flair old 70s films. I have the Helios 44 -f2 (58mm) which I do love and a Jena 135 f3.5 which I havent tested as much. Though I want to get a more consistent set.

I have both the Contax and FD and use them for different projects. Definitely more of a look with the FD but lesser built quality and not as nice to manual focus in my opinion. I am so tempted by the Helios too :)

@@OfTwoLands smoother focus would certainly be nice, I'll probably go down the route of modding them a fair amount but not re housing or anything. The Helios is really nice though I can't get my 8mm pitch to fit on it as the focus wheel is bevelled I think there are some 3D printed ones you can by. I also think the throw is a little long. And you certainly have to have a good look around as the first one I got was so hazy you couldn't see anything. I do have some yashica C/Y lenses which I may adapt to EF though they're relatively cheap lenses and don't expect a terrible amount out of them.

I’m building my own set as well and it was nice to see your video. I got the 50 1.4, 85 1.4 and would love to get the 35 as well but it’s quite more expensive! So maybe I should get the 28 instead.. quick question, did you notice that with the 6kpro when you use an adapter the camera make a little screaming noise? It’s a bit annoying especially is you’d like to pick up sound at the same time with the camera. Just wonder if you have the same issue or if it’s my adapter that that camera doesn’t like..

I think I said it before on this channel :)) but I really like a 28mm lens. It is on a super 35 sensor, but still nice! I would really like a set like this. That would be great! I have a few M42 lenses that I really enjoy using. I need to find a better adapter for the mount because mine has a small movement when using a follow focus and because the focus ring is so stiff (but good for fine focus) and it moves the whole image :))

Yes, 28mm on S35 is pretty much perfect :). I had a really stiff focusing ring on my first Contax 18mm, was so frustrating.

My favorite lens is the Contax-Zeiss 21mm f/2.8. I love the wide angle you can get from it, but it has a close focus of 22 centimeters so you can get really nice, tight closeups as well. I shot a short film earlier this year and used the 21mm for all but a couple insert shots where I used the 85mm f/1.5. The 28mm f/2.8 is gorgeous as well; it’s not as wide as the 21, but it allows for a shallower depth of field and more bokeh. Contax-Zeiss lenses are just lovely.

@@OfTwoLands Yes, and it’s really good, too. Sorry, I just updated my comment to include the 28mm but you’re super quick on the reply. 😁 The 28 is great for when you need a wider field of view but also want a shallower depth of field than what the 21 allows you to play with.

MM is the Multi Mode version, as opposed to the AE ones :). When you start researching seem to be slightly better than the AE ones and don’t feature the ninja star bokeh.

Trying so hard NOT to buy the lens after watching this haha. Currently my favorite lens on my 6kPro is the Sigma 18-35, great for indoors and low light. And I have a Canon 24-105 F4 with IS, comes in very handy for handheld outdoor shoots.
