The vision behind this residence goes beyond architecture; it embraces a culturally conscious approach, acknowledging its proximity to the Arab town of Abu Ghosh, where traces of historical biblical settlements have been unearthed. As stated by Dana Oberson, the Chief Architect and founder of Dana Oberson Architects Studio, the location of the house on the outskirts of two distinct communities, Arab and Jewish, serves not only as a living space but also as a symbolic boundary that promotes mutual respect and coexistence.
The entrance facade, with its single-level design, is more than just an entryway; it becomes a natural extension of the environment, contributing to the sense of balance and integration that permeates the entire property. The careful choice of materials reflects a deep connection to the local landscape. Inspired by the raw stone that defines Neve Ilan's agricultural terraces, the architects incorporated these organic and historical textures into the structure of the house, thus telling a narrative of identity and belonging.
Upon entering the residence, visitors are greeted by a light and airy glass entry hall, creating a fluid, connected space between the adjacent stone volumes. This transparent entry not only unveils a dramatic view of the terraces and forest but also symbolizes the smooth transition between the natural surroundings and the built space.
The internal material palette was chosen meticulously to reflect the authenticity and texture of the region. Rough concrete ceilings, brushed and burnt oak cladding in the kitchen and entry halls, along with the use of natural iron in the staircase and library, create an atmosphere of refined rusticity. Local raw stone is skillfully integrated, flowing seamlessly from outdoor to indoor spaces, establishing a continuous visual and sensory connection.
The exterior of the house opens up to an expansive terrace and infinity pool that harmonizes with the agricultural terraces, horizon, and sky. Special attention was given to landscape design, avoiding elements that would interrupt visual flow. The barriers between different levels of the house were conceived not just as partitions but as elements that blend with the landscape, using randomly appearing iron pillars that serve as support for vine growth, thus creating a seamless integration with the natural surroundings.
