Glad to hear your son is enjoying it. Off to a great start!! Keep some WD40 holstered on you for the wasps. It will kill them in mid flight. If you spray it on a cloth and wipe some in the box, It will kill the pheromones and they won’t want to nest there. Another remedy is dish soap and water sprayed on the nest.

WD-40 is a regular go-to in my world but it will stain paint and wood. Brake parts cleaner also kills the flying critters but dries stain free.... even on a white ceiling. (just don't get it on certain plastic parts)

Glad to hear your son is doing so well. "Anticipating needs" is the sign of someone who wants to learn. I used to be a carpenter, and anticipating what comes next seemed to be the hardest thing for even non rookies to learn. But of course, it can also be a sign of laziness.

I am not an electrician. I have worked in construction most of my 67 years on the planet. Anyway, several years ago I had an 18 year old helper ( not my choice ) that had never done anything outside of his phone. It took almost two months to get him to remember the difference between a Phillips and a slotted ( flat ). Not his fault that his divorced parents failed him. He got into some trouble, went to prison for 6 months. He is now an apprentice electrician. He called me to thank me for all that I taught him and that he uses what I taught him everyday. That was awesome to hear that he is on a good path now.

@@Ephesians-ts8ze Nicely said. I was lucky enough to have had a father that taught me, my two brothers, and my sister how to do a lot of construction tasks. He had me cutting and threading pipe when I was 11. It took me probably 15 minutes to cut and thread one end of a two inch galvanized pipe. No power threader available, if they even existed back then. My dad and I alone built ( not contracted ) my 3500 sq. ft. house together 36 years ago. Great times. I really miss him.

@@dallasarnold8615 threading 2” conduit by hand is not an easy task. It’s not too bad to do it just once but I was lucky enough as an apprentice to get stuck working in an industrial explosion proof environment at a plant where no power tools (that could produce an arc) were allowed. When you have to run a few hundred feet of it, it’s no fun!

Good job training your boy. I trained a couple of my daughters to do flooring work. One thing I always told/assured anyone I trained was that I would never let them try something I couldn't fix if they messed it up. That seemed to give them a little more confidence to try new things. Justin, I can appreciate what you said about "Texas". I live in Florida. Would tell a leftie to go ask old grumpy electrician to borrow his left handed wire strippers. When we had a young kid think he knew it all would send him to our truck and tell him to bring everything needed to do a service. Would send him back for roll of red tape which we did not need & bunch of other materials.

Hey Justin- you may have already solved the panel/ cover issue. But in case you haven't-- look at ES225. It's 3" longer than the ES200. What might have happened is that they originally used a 3 phase panel, swapped the inside panelboard out with a single phase board. I think you even mentioned that being done in a previous video.

What is a California 3-way? Your comment about multi-colored wiring also interests me. My southern California house, built in the early 1960's, uses black & red for the A & B hot legs of the 120 volt circuits, and white for the neutral wires. That seems pretty standard. But the A & B hot legs of the 240 volt circuits are both blue, and parts of the lighting circuits are yellow. Maybe that was a local wiring practice.

@rupe53
@rupe53 2 жыл бұрын
the term tone-out or ring-out means applying power (or some signal) to one end of a wire then finding the other end to match. 400 amp upgrade from 200 amp to a LARGE HOUSE. The power company Does Not increase the size of the drop coming to the property. How can this be? Other than air cooled drop, what is the reasoning?
@rupe53
@rupe53 2 жыл бұрын
the power company is under different rules / regulations for their code so unless you have an issue with voltage drop, they generally don't go crazy with wire size. Also consider that most service upgrades are for total number of breakers due to everything being a home run. I have found that homes generally don't draw even half of the service rating, meaning that 400 amp (320?) is loafing along at something under 150 amps with all the AC running. The flip side here is if you have calculations for over 300 amps on your 10k sq ft home, you might twist an arm to get big wire installed the first time.
