After getting recruited, there is no scope of negotiation as to terms of contract as most are Standard Form Contracts. And if we speak our mind out in interview, then our chances of getting selected get adversely affected. Beggars ain't choosers and recruiters exploit vulnerable workforce. What a coincidence that I'm writing this on 1 May (Labour Day).

Thanks so much for watching! Well taking a corporate job requires one to be professional at all times. That is not to say you can’t have fun but lets be honest it’s typically not a laid back culture. FYI recruiters don’t set the pay rate that’s typically HR. Recruiters can present to HR a counter offer but again its HR that has the final word. I will say the staffing industry has more flexibility regarding pay but ultimately it’s their client that sets the pay scale. There may be some merit regarding our assumption that all recruiters are taking advantage of you/applicants. If I understand you correctly you feel that they hold all the power but there are also other factors like availability of a certain type of worker vs another (whether more skilled or less skilled). There are a lot of things to be considered but I understand your frustration as I’ve not always been a recruiter. I do wish you much continued success; stay positive. We all have to start somewhere and it’s usually not as the CEO especially in our first real job. Take care and stay safe.

What’s the proper answer when asked at the interview why you want to go from a full time job to a contract job? I honestly want to get my foot in the door with this great company and see if I have any luck getting hired on, or at least recommended within the company. I was informed that this job does not guarantee that. What else would I say? A lot of current employees have mentioned that that’s how they got in.

I just got a soft call regarding a contractual job. The recruiter encourage me to do some research before proceeding. I am now 4 yrs into my current full-time job and doesn't much use the benefits that's why some pros of contractual works for me in that aspect. But job stability is a main concern for me, I don't wanna be laid off at my job in the future.

If you decide to become a contractor you will always be looking for your next job. If you are not comfortable in that space then it may not be a good fit for you. Full-time only means you working 40 hours per week. Regular employee means you’re not a contractor or temporary worker. In as far as healthcare you may opt to buy it yourself or through an association that you belong to...lots of options to consider. Wishing you much continued success!

Are you legally allowed to quit a 6 month permanent contract or do you have to do it for 6 months
@RecruitingMaven
@RecruitingMaven 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! There are no “permanent jobs” there are “regular jobs”, temporary, & contractors that are either designated as 1099/W2 workers. If you have a copy of your contract you should read (not being sarcastic) with that said, unless otherwise stated in your contract you can resign at any time.

Depends on what state you live in. Any state that is an “at will” state can terminate you anytime. There is no such thing as a “permanent employee”. Sorry to say, but it’s true. If you are a good employee then I wouldn’t worry too much. Wishing much success on your new job Stella!

Katherine Goodacre that advice was given to me when I started on YT so I like to pass it on. Thanks for the compliment. I’m doing it mainly to educate others. People aren’t being told about the changes coming up whether it’s a media issue or otherwise...I find it alarming how little people really know and understand the changes. What are your thoughts about some the possible challenges a regular and contracting workforce may have culturally with teamwork and trust?
@RecruitingMaven
@RecruitingMaven 4 жыл бұрын
That's such a good question! In essence people are people, yes? I think as a blanket statement and surely not to diminish your question in anyway but emotional intelligence is going to be key in any situation. With that said, both contractors and regular employees can face the same challenges culturally. The reason being is that candidates tend to lean into 'saying the right thing" vs being themselves and ultimately that backfires. Over the many years in recruitment I hear the same issues arise actually from both sides of the fence as well. We interviewed one person but it feels as if someone else took the job. Be true to yourself and in the long run you'll be happier. You will find the right job and not all jobs are going to be the right fit...that's ok too. Trust and teamwork I do believe go hand in hand as who will cooperate with you if they don't trust you. Sure your boss can demand that you work together but it will be obvious to everyone else. Be consistent, be patient as people need to get to know you and thereby building the trust...it can take up to 1 year depending on the dynamics of the group and if people are working remotely as well (can be more challenging to connect on a regular basis with people). This is a very large topic and I've tried to summarize not only my own personal experiences but also that of my candidates. Hopefully this will help you! Wishing you much continue success in all your endeavors!

No 401k match on contract jobs, is this true?
@RecruitingMaven
@RecruitingMaven 2 жыл бұрын
In my years of experience I have never knoen an employer contribute to a contractors 401K plan. Normally an employer solely contributes to their own employees. As a contractor you could raise your rates so that you can pad your own 401K contributions yourself. Typically the 1099 contractors have more bandwidth when negotiating their contract rates. If you are a contractor via a regular staffing firm I would say that it would be hard to negotiate that piece. Good luck to you!!
