This is what WarhammerTV need to do. Not just go full contrast or full classic. Use each paint to its strenghts. No metallic contrasts so they go with yellow when we HAVE metallic paints it just angers me they don't do this kind of work. This guy and Mephiston have scared the hell out of me to paint and I got Mephiston done within a week (thats after work each day so only about an hour an evening) and I'm happy with playing him as he is. (I feel I should clarify I'll probably come back to him to make better but he's still great with the contrast method)

Getting models on the table is what it's all about at the end of the day. Going back and adding extra detail to characters is a good way of making sure you don't go overboard on them in one session too.

I highly recommend using Wraithbone between the two GW contrast primers. Green naturally highlights a bit into the warm tones. I find it's a pleasant finish to my Dark Angels models, anyway. A friend of mine says he does it over just regular ol Standard Grey, to get that really dark green look the first legion is known for. Haven't tried it myself to see how it finishes, however.
@Warhipster4 жыл бұрын
That's a really good tip! I really like the colder crisp feeling of Grey Seer, so it's what I use in 99% of my painting now!
@srsgoblin4 жыл бұрын
@@Warhipster I have many friends like that, too, so I get it. I actually use Wraithbone almost exclusively myself because I live in the desert and am simply used to really warm tones on everything as a result. But, it's more about light values on the warmth spectrum. I've been trying to up my painting skills, and something I've taken away from the tremendously talented KZbinr Sorastro is how to work yellow tones or blue tones into a model. What I always told people at my FLGS when they were wondering between the two, is just imagine Wraithbone is your model illuminated by the sun and Grey Seer is your model illuminated by the moon.

The Dark Angels Green Contrast looks pretty nice doesnt it?! Handy tip i found with writing names or even the lettering on the scrolls is to use a fineliner then wait for it to dry and coat the scroll or piece with lahmium medium to cover the shine. another tip for the shield if you feel that painting straight lines would be awkward i use modelling mask tape to help draw a perfect line :) (I use Tamiya masking tape incase you were wondering). Great vid I do like to see contrast vids on how they are applied and the finished look!

I was just watching this and comparing to your Dark Angels Intercessor video from about a year later (both amazingly helpful, thank you!) and I have two questions: With captain hindsight applied, would you now go with a Wraithbone primer for Lazarus as well or is there not enough green armour visible to justify that? Again, with hindsight, would you still go and completely finish the armour with layering/highlighting as described here or would you also "integrate" it in a single highlighting process with the other parts as you did on the intercessors?
@Warhipster2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think I would do Wraithbone to make it nice and warm all over. And to make all the dark angels green models nice and consistent. And similarly I would probably wait until the end to do all The highlights together. I’ve found that’s a more pleasurable experiment for me also filming the videos it’s easier to follow doing it that way!

I always use a 1:1 mix of contrast paint and contrast medium thinner, makes it easier to work with
@Warhipster3 жыл бұрын
The Medium can help thing it and give you more time/control another is to find a colour you can turn into a glaze to smooth it out so in Dark Angels case I would recommend a 10:1 mix of Contrast Medium:Caliban Green.

I try to paint my Lazarus on your way but is quite far from it of course. I cannot find what is the perfect amount of paint on the brush, and my pulls are never so smooth as yours. I always have patches on the surface
@Warhipster4 жыл бұрын
So the way I gauge it is to look at the brush and see if the blob of paint looks like a droplet or if it looks like a stick that’s dipped in ink. Usually the paint should hang off the end of the bristles if that makes any sense?
@krisztianpaluch88344 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your answer! It makes sense for me. I hope that the paint will not dry on my brush when I'm checking that is it a good drop or not. I would love to upload the pictures of my minitures here or sending to you just to hear your opinion that what should I change or how can I do it better.
