OMG! It looks as though the pattern hasn't changed since I memorised it from the rule book of 1978! Lol. :) He's a bit rough... But I was flying in the days of Doug Harlow, Doug Grinam and Tony Cincotta. HP40 being the engine of choice that I still have today. :) It was great learning about improving aircraft design. I turned mainstream ideas upside down with wing and flap design, and came up with an aerobatic model that could change direction around a very sharp radius like a combat model with no buffeting, with next to no speed loss, yet it was the size of a small stunt ship (36" span) and at the same flying speed, slow! You could fit 2 vertical eights on top of each other in the same space as one. And like all great Experimental's, it was lost in a crash, pushing it on a windy day at a comp.... A few years later, now involved in full sized aerobatic scene, the Russian's present to the world, the Sukhoi 26. The latest carbon fibre aerobatic machine from the Soviet Union, had my bloody model wing design on it! LOL. :) It it flew like my model as well! Big fat section with the centre of lift moved way forward, it pitched amazingly tight with no loss of speed, the big tractor radial pulled the weight slowly up the vertical line, minimising drag of higher speeds, and when pointing down, the big fat wing with a closed throttle and propeller drag, it came down the vertical so slowly, with full controllability to be able to roll at max rate. The theory was proven in the real world.... with someone else's money! Lol. :)

This flight was neither following the FAI pattern nor spectacular. I've seen a lot better double overhead pullouts, for example. The pilot's attire and choreography has always influenced judging, and so has the nationality in international meets. World Champion, yes, but in a relaxed mood.

Awesome! I flew JR Stunt (contest) n the 50's, full AMA pattern, Nobler, Fox 35 adjusted needlevalvue to 4stroke. Gieskie or Alderich Nobler, don't Rember. Great memoriies with Dad. Took all winter to build the Nobler and get ready for contest season.

Fifty years ago I purchased a c/l plane for my son, We never were as good as this guy, but we were able to do several loops in a row, and figure eights. While on vacation at Cape Cod in Massachusetts, I purchased 6 stunt kites. I practiced with them every day while on vacation, having 6 hooked together really places quite a pull on your arm. I was able to make them loop and do figure eights. On the day before our vacation ended, there was a good breeze where we were staying on the bay side, and to this day I do not know how it happened but but as I was flying them over the water, there was a sudden gust of wind that made the kites dip quickly, the lead kite dove in and back out of the water allowing me to continue flying them.

I had a plane like that with lines in the early seventies. It was a Cox PT Trainer and I had a black Ju87 Stuka. Put a black widow motor in it and it was fast.

Electric? i dont know, i much prefer the sweet sound of stunt engine chugging along with a nice 2-4 break.
@robertsalser8487 жыл бұрын
I'm just now dragging my old C/L planes out of the attic and putting them back in service. I think the electric is gonna have to be played with, No engine stutter during a loop or while inverted, always a steady run. I will have to fly my engine powered planes all along, there is no way to make an electric smell like nitro and make a smoke trail.

Nothing like the sweet sound of a glow whine!

Glow engines - actually, the sound depends on WHICH glow engine. A Fox .35 Stunt running a 4-2 break sounds very different from a Saito .46 4 stroke, and that sounds very different from a piped OS .46. The latest trend, before the electrics took over, was very large (.65, .72) two strokes running at high RPM on a pipe with a flat prop. This one is an electric, unless I'm mistaken, sounds very much like a piped engine. You can program an electric to have all the speed-regulating characteristics of a glow engine through the speed controller without much of the bother.

That was amazing, I have some local guys at RC airport do this, but with shorter line. The plane looks frantic, not smooth, this guys plane seems like their is somone in it. WOW
