I'm not lying to you. 3440x1440 is less work for the GPU than 3840x2160 hence why I get more frames. At 4k with dlss yes he will get dips below 60. At 3440x1440 which is LESS than his resolution I dont.

17:40 19 months later and the DX12 stutter still isn't fixed. Great job, Remedy! And this video failed to mention the other glaring bug that remains unpatched to this day: the messed up texture streaming. 5 minutes into the game and you can clearly see it in the paintings hanging on the walls. Did Remedy borrow Bethesda's QA team or something?

The problem is pre baked lighting in linear games can produce image quality very comparable to ray tracing without the performance penalty. An artist can do a lot of very old effects in combination that do not require the level of real time computation ray tracing requires.
@kokorobertco5 жыл бұрын
But that only works in static environment (which Control obviously doesn't have) thus limiting the game design by forcing the level to become more "static". So less freedom in level and game design, also more work put into faking things to look correct. Those are what real-time ray tracing is trying to solve.

Yeah, unlike Alex I think native resolution is a loooooooot bigger deal than ray tracing. The RT effects look nice but nowhere near nice enough to play at a processed and soft looking half resolution. Will be cool to experience in a replay someday.

I've noticed some artifacts that I'm surprised you didn't mention. When turning the camera around a corner looking into a darker scene the lighting trails while the shadows/darkness catches up. Seeing the old government 50s style buildings, paneling, and objects all remind me of Fallout 4. Sad part being: at certain points, the effects and level of 3d geometry is on par with Fallout 4 - but when you turn on all effects, it just brings so much realism and life into the environment. Seriously, its crazy. It oes to show that using a proper game engine with the latest effect can really breath life into your worldspace and its assets.

blood also wouldn't move out that far from the body naturally if he was say just stabbed or shot. this is one of those dramatic effects added to movies and Games. its there for artistic entertainment and emphasis. there lots of that, like how characters walk like 20 mph, or how ur hands would not naturally be in you FOV unless u held them out or up to the height of your shoulders, and thats just not how people move about when untasked. i did a little bit of game development as a hobby,( would not recommend, theses things standout afterwards. also how crazy tall allot of living spaces are in games (or how short people are) most people don't have 30/40foot ceilings in their bathrooms.

The DX12 stutter is unfortunate. If you ever get to interview them you should ask if they considered using Vulkan, Vulkan has an application called Fossilize that can completely prevent stutters by precaching driver-specific shaders prior to launching the application.

There is a difference for sure. If you look at opaque RT reflections for example, you definitely can't reach the same quality of reflection at that performance with non-RT cards, and it stands out if you look at other scenes without it. Although, I can agree that the smaller RT settings really don't matter as much. As they're only meant to be handy corrective options for Non-RT reflective settings presents in the game, and also because you probably won't be noticing those details as much when you start getting into combat and exploring the game world.

Stutters aside in 9.5h of gameplay so far I had only one freeze and that one occurred in a cut-scene of all places (in-engine dialogue cut-scene). Didn't crash the PC, but had to close and restart the game. I consider that pretty good, given how now-a-days games come out in beta state a good half of the time.

I’ve been a PC/game tech enthusiast since the original Quake and this feels like the first truly transformative leap I’ve seen in an actual shipped game since Crysis. It’s all fine detail work at this point but this video perfectly illustrates what a bunch of those missing details that make a scene look “game-y” are and why raytracing is the next step to filling them in. I didn’t believe we’d get a good in game representation of its potential this generation but I was wrong! Bravo 👏
