Control your PH using CO2 / carbon dioxide on Swimming pools / spas

****WARNING - THE ALKALINITY IN THE POOL WILL CONSTANTLY RISE WHEN USING CO2. EXTRA MURIATIC ACID MUST BE ADDED AS NEEDED TO ADJUST / LOWER THE ALKALINITY***
This is a show and tell of an intellichem PH + ORP controller that is controlling PH with CO2.
The benefits of controlling PH using CO2 include- no alkalinity drop and no acid fumes.
The intellichem will open a solenoid for the CO2 carbon dioxide gas when the PH goes just slightly above its set point. The CO2 gets injected directly into the filtered water and then goes to the pool / spa.

Any updates on the performance of this setup, any negatives to report? Very clean install, how much chlorine does it consume with that chlrinator setup?

There are a few negatives... your alkalinity will most likely rise depending on how your tap water is. You would have to have low alkalinity water / tap water to not experience the alkalinity rising in your pool / spa. Low alkalinity water tap water is not common on the pools that I service in Southern California. CO2 systems will most likely require you to add acid to the pool to lower the alkalinity. In my experience the CO2 system ends up costing the pool serive company more than if they were to sanitize the pool using normal muriatic acid with Intellichem ph + orp controller. We will be removing this CO2 system soon on this pool and replacing it with a normal muriatic acid tank from Pentair to control the PH. Its just not worth the extra cost of having the tanks filled + still having to add muriatic acid to lower the alkalinity in my opinion.

Hi! How does the intellichem send the signal to the valve in order to modify the pH through the CO2 kit? How do you program the configuration steps? I need to install this system, but I dont know how to set in the Intellichem the dose of the CO2 kit. Greetings.

The intellichem sends power to the CO2 valve when the PH rises above its set point. I recomend reaching out to a pool service company that has experience installing these. The wireing is a bit complicated in my opinion when wiring up the CO2 valve. Easy once you understand it. You will need to reach out to a company or person that has experience installing CO2 with intellichem.

sorry I can only advise on dosing perameters if we are installing the system. You may want to reach out to a local pool service that has experience installing these. Each pool needs to be setup differently depending on useage, tap water and other things that may effect the pool water chemistry.

how long did the tank last?

On this pool the tank lasted aproximatly 3 or 4 weeks. If your trying to save mondy on chemicals CO2 is not the most cost effective way to maintain a pool in my experience. If your tap / fill water has low alkalinity then it may end up being the most cost effective.
