What is the purpose of the plie?

Hi! The purpose of the plie is to create the power or the energy for driving the other leg forward. We need to always think of sending the leg forward using the back leg as opposed to "reaching" with the front leg. The bend in the back leg allows the muscles to engage to control the "send" of the front leg. If the back leg wasn't bent, we would "fall" onto the front leg plus it would mean we would rely only on the muscles in the foot which is a much smaller muscle group! Does that make sense?

@@janestreeter8833 I think I understand from the response that the point is to use the back leg to move the other leg forward, but what is wrong with just using the other leg to move it forward by just extending it on its own?

Don't you always fall with the foot with the leg moving forward? Isn't that inevitable?
