You can also easily broadcast messages to all your google home speakers, as a sort of 'announce mode' without actually stopping the music or other media playing on those devices. Where the native Home Assistant casting option will always stop the current media playing on these devices.

For that light switch example, you don't need to use the template button and two different scripts because you can just tell Google to toggle a light and that will turn it on or off depending on what the current state already is.

Was so pleased to see this become available, previously struggled to get the home assistant relay and others to work after the OAuth2 change. I'm using this to turn off TVs with chromecasts connected. So when it's time to sleep I can silently tap a script instead of having to issue a voice command

So there is a workaround to getting state information from Google for some devices if you are syncing your Home assistant devices to Google home as well. 1. Create a template switch in home assistant and share it with Google home. 2. Using Google home routines, you can create a routine that Google's the template switch when a device is turned off or on. You may need to create 2 routines, one for on and one for off. 3. Send command through Google SDK as shown in video. The routine will now toggle the template switch. 4. Add to dashboard with action calling the a script instead of tooling the switch state.

Yes! This is great for the new Roborock MaxV Ultra we picked up over the holidays. Was disappointed the HA integration required using the Xiaomi Home app instead of the standard Roborock app (which supports a lot more features). We were stuck only controlling the device with Google Assistant and Siri Shortcuts, but this new integration lets me easily send room clean commands via HA and integrate into all our other HA automations and scripts. Super useful.

That's good to know! Does this integration expose all of the underlying functionality that the Roborock app offers e.g., selective room cleaning, setting the vacuum or mop intensity, etc? The reason I'm asking is because I know the Google Home app was limited to just starting a clean (at least to my understanding)

@@JeffreyEng1 you can send commands to do some of those things. The Google Assistant SDK only allows you to send commands one way (HA to Google Assistant) in the form of basic text. So you can only tell HA to send commands to the Roborock that's possible within Google Assistant (without feedback). So really, just start cleaning, return to dock, selective room cleaning. Edit: I believe they added selective room cleaning commands to Google Assistant relatively recently, so that also means HA can send selective room clean commands.

@@JeffreyEng1 the biggest benefit to this SDK is that it allows you to continue using the Roborock app (with all the cool functionality, like remote camera viewing and control) instead of Mi Home when you want basic vacuum control via HA.

Yes, I just tried the new Roborock integration and can confirm it works great. There is a learning curve to understand how the room "segments" work, but the dev's official GitHub page helps (can't link in the comments though)

This is awesome, thanks! When my litter box detects a pet just did their business and leaves litter scattered on the floor, ask roomba to clean a room or zone after a number of pet visits. This has been mind numbingly complicated with rest980, which irobot tends to break with firmware changes. You can't clean a zone or room locally with homeassistant's integration.

Thanks a mil..You saved me so much hassle and frustration with a automation. I have xiaomi bulbs that are not HA supported however show on Google home as devices. I was using alexa to call google and talk the automation. It was a hit and mis way of running the automation as google would not hear alexa correctly at times and google would then turn on or off all 65 bulbs in the home. Your guide here worked flawlessly .

In case anyone is following this tutorial in the future and is having trouble getting the SDK to link with home assistant, try using a different web browser. I went insane trying to delete and change settings here and there until it finally occurred to me that some addons on my web browser might be messing with the way the pop ups work. Used Chromium with no extensions and it finally linked correctly.

Hi Lewis, in my G integration process went something wrong and I want to do it again and new. Problem is that i just get the message "Access blocked: This app’s request is invalid".. Do you or anybody else here know how to delete the old stuff in HASS I entered? I cant get to the screen anymore where i can enter the ID and the secret...

This just what I needed to get my Fujitsu heat pumps working through HA. There's no integration yet but a big thread on the forums and some people have found success through various workarounds, which I was unable to replicate. The lack of state on/off information in the entity card is a let down though. I also tried the custom assistant relay integration a few months back which never worked for me but this is working fine so far (after a HA restart!). I am now able to achieve what I wanted originally and have a button in HA to play rain sounds on my google home mini in the bedroom. I'm also hoping to set up a wireless button to activate, and eventually maybe incorporate into an automation using a weight sensor on the bed!

This is awesome! I paired it with the HomeKit Bridge Integration to be able to control any "Works with Google Home" Smart Bulbs from HomeKit on my iOS devices. Not full control, but I can use presets I define in the scripts, and that's good enough for now!

If you say "Toggle the light" in the command script, you can use that script in the button and it'll toggle on or off without getting the state.

Using Google SDK can I create an automation that ask me if I want to turn the lights on and use a Google Nest Hub to answer by voice so I can decide whether to turn the lights on or not? Thanks. Great tutorial on how to get Google SDK to work. It helped me control my Tapo L530 light for which there is no suitable integration. The option to broadcast to devices that are already playing media so that they can continue after the broadcast is also a good feature to have.

Hi, I had set this up shortly after you posted video, worked great, the only thing, I didn't like having one button to turn on and one to turn off. I later worked on a project using MQTT and needed to add some MQTT sensors to HomeAssistant configuration.yaml file. This sensor hack indicates state of the Light strip that Google Assistant controls. Anyway the sensor for state along with a script with an if statement toggles the light. Not perfect as the state can be out of sync which would require two presses of button to get back into sync. Just wanted to pass this on. Thanks again for a great tutorial. Larry

This is very exciting. I have a Volvo XC40 Recharge (electric) running the Android Automotive OS (AAOS). Volvo now provides the ability to control certain aspects of the car via Google Assistant, but the Nabu integration does not support car entities. I'm hoping using the SDK will allow me to add automations for things like starting my car by voice or opening the garage door when I approach my house.

I was using assistant relay to change KZbin TV channels on a Google Chromecast TV since the adb commands did not have that ability. I use it in routines like when I get up, turn the TV on and change it to local news on NBC. And then at 7 am when national NBC takes over I have it automatically change to a different local channel. Works great other than if it tries to change to the same channel you are already watching, then it pauses it. :( I will try the Google SDK and see if it works to do the same. Thank you!

I’ve been using assistant relay for a year now and still only have a few use cases. It is worth mentioning that it will not be able to perform all assistant commands, such a playing music for instance. This was the biggest let down for me.

thank you for the video i have been waiting for this! There is a remote starter i put in my vehicle called CL6 (Car Link). It uses Google Assistant but requires a pin after the first command is sent. Is there a way to script the message for this? It seems that if i send the PIN even right after i send the original command it fails to recognize the request.

Thanks for this very useful and understandable tutorial! My first use is for a few Broadlink light bulbs. The Broadlink integration did not work for these and the other options in the community are too complicated compared to this. Then maybe I'll use it to control my LG air conditioning, if the other workaround suggested by the HA community does not work. Although this solution is not perfect, at least it allows to blindly send commands to the devices. Hopefully it will improve in the future. A suggestion: Would you make a video showing how to do a similar job using Alexa? Maybe it could be a brief follow-up to your video about setting Alexa with HA, explaining about the devices that are only recognized by Alexa and if their status would show in HA. Again, thanks for the great work.

I'm currently using this to control my switchbot blind tilt since I haven't got it to work with HA directly - I'm hoping they will update the integration for it soon. Also want to use it to control white noise/rainfall sounds on one of my speakers but it seems that's not currently working for me. It says that media payback isn't supported however "play rain sounds on x speaker" is supported - though I haven't got that to work yet.

Thanks Lewis! I know this video goes back a while, but a little more information on the use with the template card would be helpful. I setup an "on" script and and "off" script. Used tap for on and hold for off. Couldn't figure out how to get the icon to change color on the Hold for off portion. Is there a better way?

Dyson are a good example - the HASS integration was removed as unmaintained, Dyson keep changing authentication, so HASS -> Google -> Dyson might just work. The irony is Dyson apparently use MQTT under the hood.

Another use-case is to turn on / off the Hue & Spotify Sync, which I don't think can be done natively within HA. The notify.google_assistant_sdk service is also interesting. If you target a Nest hub you get a graphic alongside the TTS. Hopefully a future version of this integration will allow this to be changed along with the TTS message...

Yeah... The notify service is a bit of a let down for me right now. I wish it would just say the notification instead of prepending stuff to it (it says broadcast or something before it says anything). Unfortunately I think we're relying on Google to change all that... I don't have high hopes.

nice tutorial, however broadcast does not work for me maybe because i can't turn off ipv6 on my modem. When i use 'Google Assistant SDK: Send text command': "broadcast this", then my google home says "all right broadcasting" and then nothing... So it seems to me it should be possible to get it to work properly. Any ideas?

Great content ! Thank you. I think I can follow this approach to populate a card (with nest cam) on Home Assistant dashboard. There is very well a command to that displays this for a short period of time. I have tried it google displays and it works. But the only issue I think here is that I have noticed on the google display it streams the camera only for "x" number of minutes after which it falls back to the wall paper (set in for the google display). I was just wondering if I make it stream for eternity just like my NVR does for other cams. Thoughts?

Yes, the Alexa Media Player integration does this. I believe it's in HACS. That's how I control my Honda car remote start. (Since Honda only supports Alexa). I bought a single Echo Dot and used that. Also used the echo for playing SiriusXM from HA (randomizing a channel to play every day). Now with the Google SDK, I can finally use that on my Google speakers.

Hi Lewis, I have a quick question, but I'm not sure if this is the right channel for this. I am looking for a Lux-sensor blueprint that works smart(er). In other words: I'm looking for a blueprint that dynamically raises/lowers the lightbulbs when the lux values go up or down (seamlessly during the day). I knew about the ability to add a rudimentary Google assistant to Windows in a similar way via that cloud manager system and the Google assistant api, but I had no idea you could have this home assistant integration. Thanks! Say, do you happen to know how to make it so a user can say a Google assistant command on one device and have it be performed on another device? (outside of home assistant) For example: I have Google assistant supporting headphones - they have the assistant built-in - but when I tell the assistant on the headphones to read the screen on my phone, it doesn't understand what I want and starts talking to me about reading ebooks instead. However, when I activate the same “read it” or “read my screen” command via the Google Assistant directly on my phone, it starts reading whatever text is on the screen. I want to be able to call for the command on my headphones, but have it actually activate directly on the phone so that it starts reading the screen of the phone. Any idea if and how this is possible?
