Controversial Autoflower Growing Techniques - Have you done this?

Hello to all out in the gardening world, It's a great day to grow! I wanted to share some experiences with some autoflower info the Dr. touched on. Topping does seem to be a huge debate for us growers of auto's and can be done with success. I've experimented with about 6 different Indica strains (that's all I grow) and they have all acted the same. I have found that if you top the plant at the 3rd node it seems to work the best. If you wait until the 5th node, as many say to do with photo's, you will probably be in week 2 or later and that only gives the plant another week or two to recover before going into flower which is definitely going to hurt yield! The colas on the topped plant will be a little smaller than the one large cola on an untopped plant but in all the two will produce more than the one. And by all means don't go topping other limbs and tops, one early in growth at the main stem is fine but anything else will just stunt your plant and defeat the purpose. And of course I must throw in the best, in my experience, training method which is LST! Happy growing everyone hope this helps.

I am right at day 21 with 3 plants... 1 Mephisto Double Grape.... 1 Fast Buds Blackberry.... and 1 Holey Rabbit by Steal these Seeds (who I really believe is the next BIG breeder)... think i'm gonna top one just to see how it goes...

Hi man! Once I accidentally topped Green Gelato auto in late flowering stage, she recovered quickly probably because she was really healthy and strong. Total dry weight was nearly the same as her sister that grew without any heavy stress. The only difference is that headless one gave me one seed...I guess that might be because of stress If I find pics I'll send it to you.

I accidentally topped one of my Medusa F1s (autos). I had two, who were planted at the same time. F1s, as you know, are genetically like twins, and thus has been so true in the ones I've grown so far: basically identical with their 'sisters'. So I think they're a good test, for the comparisonsvabd data you're talking about. Anyway, the topped one has seemed to give me a extra kola. I won't know their weight - yields until cut and dried though, so that will surely be a better benchmark than my eyes telling me' looks like that accidental topping of one of the Medusas has increased her mass! '

The first time I grew autos I started more than I needed incase some didn't pop. They all popped and in a hurry two ended up in solo cups. Those two that I transplanted were the biggest ones. Tried again and same thing. I just used Mykos on the roots when transplanting did it quick and they did great. Northern Lights from ILGM.

Well, so far, I'm on my 20th autoflower plant now, and some topped and not many differents. If anything, I might grow in a 3gal take-off, the 3 or 4 pairs of bottom branches stack in tight, and fill the room. So far, the autoflower has been a good daytime smoke. Gsc has been the best.

I just got into autos, I’ve done 3 runs, I ran 4 strains, same breeder, my first 2 were the best ones, same strain ( PurpleThunder)-Super flavor, great color,and best terp profile I’ve come across. I’m currently testing on cloning and re-veg, been told impossible, a rarity. Great show, I’m tuned in, subscribed to the channel. 👏🏻🤙🏻👍🏻

I learned a lot playing with autos. 1st thing I learned is it’s not for beginners. I would suggest learning with photoperiod first. Dial in your feed and proper watering. Then go to autos once you’ve had successful runs with photos. Autos need a stronger feed. Surprisingly they eat a lot. Dialing in the proper feed will give you amazing results. Topping plus lst plus the right amount of feed will help you get big bushy plants. 18/6 lights are a must ( this helps with stress produced trichs the most)

On my first ever grow (currently still going) I topped one of my autos and left the other to grow with no topping, I also did very slight defoliation on both plants. I have weekly photos if you want to see the difference between the two. They both look like they’re going to produce about the same amount as they both are taking up about 2ftx2ft in my 4x4 tent. I started with 4 plants, but unfortunately had to kill one to hide them from my landlord and the 3rd one has been stunted since the beginning as it started with 3 cotyledons instead of 2 and wasn’t able to break the seed casing off and to this day only has 3 nodes despite my other 2 plants being monsters.

After many toppings with great results, I'm sticking to leaf tucking. 🤘Best way to grow more plant in the same space. Most times it even out the tops. And yield high.

In dwc the 4th node works for me on autos as soon as I can snip it and then start tying it down as soon as possible, then hang your light high up and turn it up let it stretch out you can get some massive plants easy but don't forget to turn your lights down some in flower and I change feed and bleach out the pails weekly add big air pump 3 1/2 inch air stones one plant fill a 3x3 or a 2x4 tent after a couple practice runs. 👍

I have found that topping an auto will dramatically increase yeild as long as lst is used. Ive also found that topping reduces sugar production.

Producing more trichomes at the last days of growth, seems like the trichomes wont be able to "amber up", Just a thought. I am on my first grow of Autos. Today is day 78. Lots of clear to light milky Trichomes now. 4 plants, one stunted for 2 weeks at start (over-water) the other three are short but bud laden. Black Jack autos. I did not train or top, since first time with autos. Outside grow. Good info here, thank you.

Be patient with the trichomes, they'll turn when ready. Right now is usually when they really start to gain some weight. So don't pull the trigger to soon

I like to transplant my autos. One of the only reasons I like to do this is so I can pour mykos onto the roots. I've noticed that a lot of the time the transplanted ones seem to be a little healthier and a little bit bigger (Not in all cases though)

Yea tbh it's a bit of a myth that you "can't/ shouldn't" report autos.. you can most definitely repot them although I would do it gently, where as non autos when repotting I'd ruffle up the root mass somewhat first.

Hey I am a first time grower with autos and let me tell ya Iive in Kentucky also still growing outside, umm I tried topping and what they done was got good and bushy but ended up with small but good buds, now I'm growing sour diesel with good genetics. I was hoping to have some nice decent sized buds but I think it was the topping, next time I'll try no topping to see what I get

I've got a few decades of hobbying 🌱 under my belt & imo there's absolutely Zero point ( other than for serious heat issues) to give ladies an extended dark period before harvest, & if not carefully checked can very easily kick off molds if done so 🌱 Yes you can & have zero issues But i don't think even science these days backs up the myth in sny shape whatsoever 🤔 it's just one of them " each to their own " ways of growing 🌱 But in all my experiences I've never seen a difference other than an increased risk of molds setting in 🌱 Happy growing everyone 🌱🌍🥰

GML topping: pinch off the 5th pair of leaves on a seedling and keep pinching out the petioles as they grow longer. This will slow the growth of the main stem and induce branching. There's no stress exibited by the plant.

I always top my autos. After 2 dozen using both xmas tree and topped, I find I get a better canopy and a better yield. Top at 25-30 days. 600-700 par. last 45 days.

I do top in auto I do hst and lst and it's a way to get better yield alsow it can be transplanted any time

Hey man love your videos. Just wanted to say I'm from the southern gulf islands here in b.c ( in b.c like you) and I wanted to ask if it would hurt your autos if you change there light cycle half way through bud from 18/6 to 12/12?. I have 2 growrooms, one vegroom and a bud room. I have my photos In my bud room but my vegroom is getting too hot because of the summer heat already so I wanted to shut the vegroom down and just move my autos in the 12/12 room with my photos. Could that create problems?

From what I’ve experienced, less light on autos can mean less yield at harvest. If it’s too hot, that would mean less yield too due to stress and many other stress related issues so I think you made the right choice. 👍

from what ive seen myself & watching 100's of grows here on youtube is , you can top an auto but only if its a vigorous grower (sativa leaning) , if you are using an auto water system (autopot/grow bucket etc) also using synthetic nutrients . Personally everytime ive topped my autos ive had poor yields & growth & prefer to LST which gives much better results 😎

Scrog nets are classified as Low Stress, high stress if removal/snapping the plant

I’ve been raising 2 autoflowers. During veg i increase the light. Once into flower i start shortening the time. So far, so good! Both plants have very healthy, sticky bud. I also run an aquarium bubbler in the water at room temp for 12 hrs. This time I didn’t trim anything except the few dead yellow leaves

When growing some breeds of auto flowers. Like purple lemonade or blackberry autos from fastbuds. Have you had any problems with the plants not turning the colors like violet or purple like their adds show. I’ve seen some healthy looking plants but they don’t seem to turn any of the colors. Do you think using a led lights like vivosun could be the issue.

Make sure you flush properly and drop the temperature last to week the cold will help bring the fall colours out

Need some quick advise. I'm growing autos for the first time. I have 2 different strains outside in 7g fabric pots. Grew them from seed. I'm at day 37. One plant has lots of little buds and the other plant has nothing! Could I have a male auto? Thank you for any help and advise. ✌

There different strain so they could flower at different times. Best to look at your overall seed to harvest time from the breeder.. if 1 is 8 weeks and the other is 11.. then thats probably the case. Even some 10-11 week strains I've seen people take them 14 or 15 weeks (on growdiaries that is) There on there own schedule and do what they want. Are you seeing pistols on the one that has yet to flower?

A little help please. Have a question, I just overfed my girl when watering. Now what? I don't want to flush a plane that I just watered. But this girl is allot more sensitive than I thought. I am in week two of flower, and just fed with recharge. Apparently too much Recharge. So Back to my original question, now what do I do? Am I just stuck until I water next?

Stop the feeding, give plenty of water for the pot to spit the water + nutrients at the plate. Leave It alone, only water when needed for the next times, then add nutrients again slowly

I used to have a very small grow cab. I topped to keep the height down. Not much yield at all. Something like 35 grams. A lot to be said about that. Lighting was more than likely the cause. I pinched on the third node. About to grow three Gorilla Punch Auto's so I am going to top one. Eager to see what happens. 3X3 tent

Well, My Cat Topped my First Auto, and after she ate the center node out, I decided to top and fim the plant, ended up pulling 2.89 ounces , and that was my first grow. That was strictly flower weight no stems or sugar leaves.

Topping autos is not per strain, it’s per plant. If I have 4 plus nodes below top, I top it. It’s basically by feel. But, if you have limited space, and mandatory yield, just leave them alone.

Yes, the "auto" comes from the rudialis strain bred with sativa/indica. Rudalis strain originates from europe/russian and has no thc content but has the unique "auto flower" property
