For the London 2016 incident, here is what happened: Whoever finished ahead out of Di Grassi and Buemi would be champion. Battersea Park was a very difficult circuit to overtake on. If Prost had been between Buemi and Di Grassi, then he could drive slowly and give Buemi a lead and probable title. Di Grassi had to get passed at the start, to beat a quicker car with teammate support. Di Grassi tried to get between the 2 Renaults, but the gap wasn't there. He then made contact with Prost which sent him into Buemi as he corrected it. Di Grassi's steering inputs show this: He was turning right for the right gander, then went left to get between them, then right again to correct the contact. It was a racing incident.

The De Grassi and Buemi incident at the end reminds me of the Senna/Prost incident at the Japanese GP when Prost wrecked Senna (I believe or maybe it was Senna who wrecked Prost can't remember) and Senna continued to win the championship, then the title got taken away due to a very controversial penalty that resulted in a DNF for Senna
