Use a metronome. I'm not the best by any means, and it only took me 3 days to get up to speed using one. Start low, like 70 bpm and go until you can do it 5 times in a row perfectly, no missed notes, no string noise, then move up 5 bpm. Rinse and repeat until you just can't get any higher, then come back the next day and start 20bpm lower than you left off. You'll be surprised with the results you get. I went up like 10-15 each day.
