Glad to see this 767 will soldier on for several more years as a freighter. The 767 freighter is a hot item right now, with over 80 new builds on order from Boeing, and several conversions on top of that. I have to admit, it was a bit painful for this avgeek to see them cut into the fuselage before installing the cargo door.

I enjoyed flying in the 767 and I am very happy to see them be utilised. My question is what took them so long to have a dedicated freighter (they used to operate DC-8 63F) and why didn't they paint it in the new livery?

Gotta' admit that from a pax POV, the B767 is a personal fave. That said, freighter usage seems to be growing, and when an airframe is "recuperated" to an "F" designation, it gives this ol' AVgeek a cause to smile... ;-)

doubt it, the company scrubbed its contract with western global due to unreliability. They kept Atlas 747s to fly the demand for them. Might see their 767s here and there. We are already trained to offload the atlas fleet.

Great video! Some questions for anyone who knows. Forgive my ignorance, I’m just an aviation enthusiast (geek) here. In the beginning of the video, the flight deck was gutted, what was the reason for that? Is it being upgraded with newer technologies or does the freighter variant require a completely different set of avionics/systems? Also, after the interior was gutted, does the flooring need to be reinforced to handle the payload of the cargo she will be carrying? Finally, of the latter question, are there any kind of regulatory laws required of companies regarding cargo variants/conversions? Again forgive my ignorance and mahalo in advance for the education. Aloha from Hawai’i 🤙🏽
@e.c.listening3262 жыл бұрын
Looks like it had the old CRT-Type avionics installed, when doing major work with intent to last some more decades it’s a good choice to upgrade that. No requirement but a solid investment. Flooring needs reinforcement to cope with more weight and the attachment of the cargo rail floor to move and lock containers and trays inside the hull.
@mmcorrie2 жыл бұрын
Hey - the flight deck will be removed for ease of access to the electronics upgrade that goes with the door mod - new indicators and actuation switches for the door must be integrated into the existing display and controls, it would also be removed if the a/c was in for a D check, which is possible because its a good time to do the cargo door mod as it was scheduled to be out of service anyway... The entire floor was likely NOT replaced. The a/c is certified to carry to a certain amount of weight, whether that's people or cargo is irrelevant, so there is no "extra weight" for cargo (but there is possibly extra weight for the door mod itself), mostly just stress flow for the structural changes. The area around the cargo door conversion (including the floor) will HAVE to be replace due to the new stresses caused by the door conversion...and yes, the conversion must have an STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) for the mod issued by the governing body where the a/c (aircraft) is registered, in this case, Transport Canada
@locoHAWAIIANkane2 жыл бұрын
WWAOW! Thanks guys! Absolutely FASCINATING!! I never considered modifications to the flight deck systems because of the door. And the structural changes the door brings to an aircraft! Just absolutely fascinating!!

@davef.28112 жыл бұрын
Hopefully, by now, the location/design of the fasteners attaching the electric motor to the main cargo door actuating reduction and transmission mechanism has been revised to allow R&R of the motor from the mechanism as installed in the aircraft. Previously, there had apparently, been no consideration given to the motor ever having to be changed after the door actuating drive assy. was installed into the airplane. Deferring the electric drive was time-limited and the manual back-up was not a viable alternative for time-sensitive freight operations and sometimes didn't work at all.

Air Canada screwed the Canadian employees at Aveos Fleet Performance Inc., their former maintenance branch (formerly known as Air Canada Technical Services). Air Canada outsourced their own employees to Aveos and then worked with the U.S. banks that owned Aveos to close the company. As a result, there wasn't anyone in Canada who was big enought to handle Air Canada's airframe maintenance. At least our friends at Aeroman in El Salvador are doing well.
