You cant retain the PIR sensor in these lamps. They are useless because they work on a resistive load of 500 watts whereas 10 watt LED has a capacitive load. I’ve just tried to insert the same sized tube type LED bulb ( same fitting as the 500w halogen) and it won’t trigger. The LED works perfectly if the sensor is removed and LED is wired directly to the mains 230 volts, but you can only turn it on or off with a conventional switch, which means it becomes useless as a security light. And I’m dammed if I can find a supplier of separate LED PIR sensors. All the new LED security lamps are fitted with sensors that switch LED lamps but it seems you can’t buy them separately. So, after buying 4 new LED tube lamps for £25, after I saw this video, I bought a pack of 4 new, complete lamps for 28 quid !! It ain’t worth all the bother to muck about converting old ones. I’m going to use the old ones, minus the sensors, in a manually switched circuit on my garage front. They will create the light of day so I can clean, polish and maintain the car after dark !!!! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Can you use a led load resistor? Like the ones you have to install if you want to use LED turn signals in your car without triggering hyper flash if you don’t need the Cobb chips

Load resistor to fix the PIR sensor proble, is that I was asking in my last comment question

@@adamburdette23 : I am sorry but I have no idea what you are talking about. Never heard of Cobb chips, or had any occasion to install LED lights in cars with them, which, presumably do not operate on PIR sensors. What I said in my original post was entirely about building security lamps, the changing of them from Halogen filament high wattage lamps to LED chip low wattage lamps.

@@robertknott1124 hey sorry I was confusing. What I was saying was have you tried putting a LED load resistor in to try to fix the PIR resistance issue. LED load resistors are mostly used on vehicle LED turn signals to stop the hyper flash because the LED the resistance is too low might work on the PIR if the resistance is too low for it too. Lastly sorry I meant Can Bus not Cobb I have no idea why i put that. I know vehicle led and this aren’t really the same but I am just trying to learn.

@@adamburdette23 : Hello again ! Yes, I am always trying to learn things too ! One seldom gets any instructions with devices nowadays. I tried lots of things to get those old lamps of mine working with the LED lights, same size as the Halogen lights, but they wouldn’t work. And I’m not entirely daft, I used to be in electronics , working for Phillips, so I had few used, but workable old, components in amongst my junk, so did a lot of experimenting before giving up and buying dedicated units. They were so cheap too ! A box of 4 only cost £20, not worth the mucking about trying to get the old ones going.
