Very useful. Gary! In my opinion you are the wiki for these stoves. Thank you for helping us always. Atb, The Solo Hiker....

@@BernieDawgCinema Exactly my point. I have watched almost all your videos over the years. You have always shown and spoken what your unbiased observations have been. You've shown your successes and your failures. That's what makes you and your channel a very reliable and respectable person and platform. Not glorifying you. Just calling a spade a spade. Just subscribed. Always wanted one of these Optimus stoves, but seems they were more expensive that other options. I used a small coleman white gas stove for most of my backpacking, then bought a coleman stove made to burn on an exclusive aluminum cannister type of fuel. Got busy with life and never used it. Might sell someday. Now, I use a trangia alcohol stove, but am yearning for one of these optimus 111T stoves. Now to just find one. . At least when I do, I'll know about your very helpful videos to guide me on keeping it going. Thanks

@Dydeeo Thanks! To get an Optimus 111T... watch the listings at eBay diligently. Daily checks. Be prepared to pay far more than those old prices of yore you mentioned. They only get more expensive every day since they are collectible and no longer made for many years now. But, you'll be able to sell the one you get for more than you paid in another few years, so it's win-win. Good luck! BD

Thank you for the video, I plan on converting my 111T To Burn alcohol as I find that the odourless operation indoors is wife friendly...now to source a proper jet. That's a mission.
@BernieDawgCinema3 жыл бұрын
@Senna4EvR You are welcome on the video. *However*, there should be no trouble at all to source the alcohol jet. I tell you where to get the jet and even provide a clickable link in the description box right below the video that'll take you directly to the suppliers' webpage. I couldn't possibly make it any easier. 😄👍 BD

Very nice, Gary! Do you think a a guy could enlarge a white gas jet to stand in for the alcohol jet?
@BernieDawgCinema4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, it seems like a feller could just enlarge a jet if you didn't want to buy one from England (Base-Camp) or get one out of an old alcohol stove. I've not had much success with drilling jet holes as the bits are incredibly fragile. But, you may have more patience and steadier hands than I. I know another guy who posts frequently on a highly visible forum likes to drill big holes, then silver braze in a hypodermic needle sleeve. BD

This can be an excellent alternative to kerosene. Can you please make a similar video for diesel? I am yet to see diesel burning with a blue flame in a stove.
@BernieDawgCinema4 жыл бұрын
Nope. Sorry. I can't make a similar video for vehicle diesel because vehicle diesel doesn't burn in stoves. It's too thick, too full of additives, requires high pressures and high temperatures to vaporize and to burn that stoves simply don't have. And, for the record... yeah, I've tried it in both silent and roarer burners. The folks who are selling you "multi-fuel" stoves who claim their stoves will run diesel fuel are bs-ing you so they can make a buck. (Wouldn't it be cool if they *did* run diesel?) But, the truth is diesel will not run with a blue flame in a small stove used for camping. It's just fact informed by physics and science. And, it's why you don't see a slew of KZbin videos doing it. Sorry. ☹️ BD
@lambdaprog4 жыл бұрын
@@BernieDawgCinema Thanks, Bernie for the quick reply. I am well aware about the physics limitations. A blue flame could be generated using an external (battery powered?) compressor or something similar. This could be cool to see, but it's nothing much more than just a curiosity.
@BernieDawgCinema4 жыл бұрын
Not sure how the compressor changes anything, but if you think you've got it figured out, that's cool! Give it a whirl sometime and make a video to post at your KZbin channel. I'd be happy to link to your successful diesel stove video from my alky video and even from my website. You'd be a lot of peoples hero for sure. Big $$$$ in that solution. 👍 BD
@BernieDawgCinema2 жыл бұрын
@Joshua Kiser Absolutely the same problem but worse! Biodiesel is even more problematic than diesel to burn in small stoves. Hopefully you read and understood my previous comments above. Diesel engines in cars and trucks operate at very high cylinder pressures and burn the fuel at very high temperatures. Stoves don't do that. So, most of the hydrocarbons in diesel and biodiesel and biodiesel/ethanol blends don't burn in small stoves. Result? Big yellow and smoky flames, tons of soot, and tar-like deposits which clog the fuel line and the burner of small stoves and quickly make them non-functional. If you don't believe me, just try it yourself. But, don't get mad at me when you have to spend hours trying to rehabilitate your filthy and clogged stove. 'Cause I warned ya! 😁🤷♂️ BD

Great video is there any chance you have a 111t fuel tank? My my 111c has a steel tank that has rust. I say you turned a 111c into a D. I’d like to do that to my 111c I’d also like an alcohol jet and tube. I’d love to have a 111t or 111d. I had several 111t but like an idiot sold them
