Wow! It seems so obvious now, but it never even occurred to me that I could use the BSP as an interface between VCV and my hardware synths. Thanks, Omri! This is a game-changer for me!

Thank you so much - this is great! I have been playing around connecting BSP and KS to my semi-modular gear already. But the idea of sending DIFFERENT sequences through each gate output of the BSP opens up incredible possibilities. I know what I will be doing all weekend :)

This works well with the MiniBrute 2S that's right. The Keystep can be a good trick since it is lighter and easier to bring with you for a gig than the MiniBrute ! A laptop with vcv and a keystep and your orchestra is ready to travel all around the world :-)

This was my thought too! I was just reading up on dc coupled audio interfaces and came across this video... Would the BSP also work to send cv from Ableton’s CV Tools to my hardware synths?
@Magnus_Loov Жыл бұрын
Interesting! Wonder what types of midi messages you actually can convert, if you have the types of CV outputs that convert midi to CV on an external device. I mean midi note on and key to CV-gate and CV-out (pitch) is a given. As is expression (mod). But on the Arturia microfreak I also have Aftertouch out as a CV. Can you convert something in the VCV to an aftertouch value? And even for the normal pitch/note value in Midi. If I know the "destination voltage", couldn't it also be used for other stuff than the normal pitch/note? I mean for many semi-modulars we already have a midi in so the CV-pitch could be used for something else. We know that there is 1 volt/octave. Say that we would like to convert a value for something else that is in a range of, say, 1-50. Then we only would have to convert the 0-127, 128 values, for the keyrange to 50 discrete values spread out over the keyboard range, to get the right voltage. That is, if the voltage range is the same as for the keyrange and if not convet to that voltage range too (maybe a reason that MOD works better with more discrete values?). Anyway, a great way to make use of some strange "mathematical modules", "generators" etc in VCV to control midi parts. And with enough Semi-modular synths you still have quite a lot extra modulation outputs to controll "real inputs" other than the pitch and gate!

Hey brother, thank you for the lovely tutorial and guide on using the Keystep! I am simply amazed by your knowledge and passion for synths and sequencing with musical equipment. I was wondering if you've heard of Cherry Audio's Voltage Modular? It's like a digital eurorack, I got it with my Presonus Audiobox96 USB interface. Anyway I was wondering if you could help with my specific setup and utilizing all my gear. I have patch cables, a MIDI splitter, and a MIDI to USB cable. Now within Ableton and other software like Studio One, I see the options for external inputs as MIDI IN, CTRL, and SEQ IN for my SQ-1, so I was wondering how I could setup my MIDI control center for Keystep to use the Mod/CV/Gate inputs with my SQ-1 CV A / Gate and CV B / Gate ports on my Korg SQ-1 Step Sequencer. I have read I can use the MIDI out from the SQ-1 and send it to the MIDI in of the Keystep to convert the data back and send it out the Keystep outputs? They both have sync in and out, but I wanted to use those for integrating my Pocket Operators to keep them in time with the other loops and sequences. All I know there's the 3 ports on the back of the Keystep, but I am unsure of their use with the Pitch and Mod strips for bending. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
@OmriCohen-Music3 жыл бұрын
Well, that's a tricky one :) I believe the SQ1 has only clock sync and not Midi sync, can be? That can also work with the Keystep though. And yes, I tried Voltage Modular before, but I'm too used to VCV Rack :)

Does anyone have an issue with this whereby the CV to Midi is sending midi values at a higher CV? Ie if I send the V/Oct to a Osc in VCV rack it’s at one pitch, but if I send it externally (via a micro freak) to another osc its at a much higher pitch ?
@OmriCohen-Music5 жыл бұрын
Well, I'm not so sure why it's happening but you can use Stack from BogAudio to lower the pitch before the Midi module. Maybe the hardware oscillator is set to a higher pitch than the one in VCV?
@glennjamesmusic4 жыл бұрын
Try rebooting the Neutron. If you've triggered the unit via MIDI previously, the oscillators jump to whatever pitch you inputted and stay there +/- where the tuning knob positions are. I had this same issue and found that restarting the Neutron reset the oscillators and the pitches were in the appropriate range and not super high pitch as you described! The Stack from BogAudio that Omri mentions below is fun and helpful though for sure. Hope this helps!

not sure if it has happened to you, but above 140 BPM I'm experiencing some stutter on the MIDI IN from the Neutron, had tried USB and MIDI, same result :(
