Another great video as usual. I like that you covered Shift+F to show/hide the mesh face group visualization. That step is often forgotten in instructional content but is very useful for a user to see the outcome of their face group calculation.

I have the free version of F360, so I can't convert to SOLID because I do not have the PRISMATIC option! Do you know of some other ways to convert MESH and or STL file to solid state? Thank you.

Thanks for a great video. I have been trying to modify stl files for 3d printing, but it was tedious with all the triangles. Generating the face groups and using prismatic is so much cleaner and efficent!

Thank you, Kevin, for created an updated video on STL MESH to Solid. My experience is that Autodesk is continually updating and improving the software, and the UI has evolved over the years.

But my version is free so I can't convert MESH or STL to solid. Do you know of any other ways to do so? It is a prosthesis, so it is round everywhere, including inside, where the arm fits into. Thank you.

Really good video, getting started with Fusion 360 after using SolidWorks. Good guide to get used to Fusion 360.

Thanks for your videos! I have personal version - free - that doesn't have PRISMATIC option. Can I convert STL file into a solid? The object is a prostheses that is round and it has on one side hollow part, where the person inserts part of the forearm, and I wanted to convert it to solid state, so I can make a hole and thread at the other end, where the tools can be attached. None of the methods converting with the free version works! Is there a way to convert the STL into solid state? Thanks again.

Great video! Do you have a video on drawing parts on top of scan files? Say I want to draw a part that attaches to what I’ve scanned. I can’t find any good examples on KZbin

This video does a bit (but doesn't show all the different things you can do) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZW2iJybf9OaadEsi=S2q95tFNLeXcyIH8

it's annoying that Autodesk lock the feature that most hobby/maker users of F360 need behind the highly priced versions.
@CraigHollabaugh Жыл бұрын
Did I miss something, didn't he convert the STL without using any paid features?
@grumpyoberpfalzermillenial9035 Жыл бұрын
@@CraigHollabaugh He did first. But the prismatic conversion option is far superior and would be really helpful especially for beginners when modifying models from Thingiverse or Printables to suit their needs. I really wish this would be in the free version, heck I would even pay 50 euros to get that feature - but as a pure hobbyist nearly 600 euros per year is prohibitively expensive.
@grumpyoberpfalzermillenial9035 Жыл бұрын
You can do the conversion from mesh to solid in FreeCAD - it's not as good as the prismatic conversion but way better than the free option in F360. Even if the FreeCAD interface is quite convoluted, it's just a few steps you can easily learn. Then import the solid into F360 and work from there.
@CraigHollabaugh Жыл бұрын
@@grumpyoberpfalzermillenial9035 I rewatched this. You're right, prismatic isn't free. Sorry about that.

Folks should give their work away for free. I do. I don't eat anymore and I live on the street but least at you don't have to pay.

I get a warning error about 10000 triangles when I try to edit a former mesh > solid body even after repairing. Is there a way to make this operation easier for the software?

Hello fiend i m tryin to convert stl file to g code solid body but my 3d design a wheel rim after i convert missing the center. You know how i can fix that?
@DennisMurphey Жыл бұрын
Is this a new capability? I have train engine bodies in STL i want to try to convert to Fusion 360 editable files. I should try one and see. You are so helpful in these videos thanks Young Feller. In my mess of Part files, can I create a component and sort bodies into Component labels to sort out the mess???? Dennis
@ProductDesignOnline Жыл бұрын
Hi Dennis. Yes, you can have as many components as desired, including nesting them to create "sub-assemblies". Components can have 0 to infinite number of bodies.
@DennisMurphey Жыл бұрын
Thank You maybe I can clean up this mess over time.

So how can we convert meshes to solid bodies if the orginal mesh is quite complex and organic?
@ProductDesignOnline3 ай бұрын
If it's organic then the organic conversion is available through the Product Design extension. However, if it was created in another mesh program and is super organic it is unlikely to convert.
@Lil-s1w3 ай бұрын
@@ProductDesignOnline Thanks for your reply! I do have that extension and I've been trying to convert the volumetric lattice mesh created by Fusion itself. However, not much luck converting the mesh back to solid body! Fusion suggests generating face groups or direct editing, but this is such a pain because the volumetric lattice has so much details. I'm wondering whether you might have some experience in this issue? :)
@ProductDesignOnline3 ай бұрын
Oh, thanks for clarifying! I believe the way that Fusion generates the lattices. They cannot be converted to a solid because when they're generated in the first place, they're technically on mesh. It's a bit of a one-off scenario. Unfortunately, I don't think there are many options to work with the lattice in the solid realm... If you're trying to cut something out of the lattice, you can convert a solid to a mesh and then use some of the mesh Boolean tools.

It's likely that your file is in Direct Modeling mode. Do you see the parametric timeline at the bottom? If not, right-click on the top component in the Browser > Capture Design History.

Can't figure out why it doesn't add an item on the timeline when I import the mesh file. Anyone have any ideas on that one? EDIT: Nevermind. I figured it out. Had to right click on the upper level component and turn it on: "capture design history". Not sure why it wasn't on by default.

It's a percentage that allows you determine smallest face group of the overall mesh/body.
