Great video, Ken! And an awesome addition to your converted pool filter. I always thought about converting myself one , but I am a bit hesitant still. Scared it does not work as good as the proper ones and to waste my money on the diy. However after watching you doing it, I might give it a shot in the future, when I can hold off an old one that is for free. 👍

If I could do it you certainly can. I think the main thing to keep in mind is the water flow direction through the filter and the media you'll use. Most pool sand filters water flow is top down so floating media like K1 might work but wouldn't be ideal which is why I went for the K+ sinking media. Water flow through the filter is top down as designed and is working very well. Not sure in Australia but here in Canada people often sell used pool filters quite cheaply if they are closing down their pools or upgrading to a newer model filter. Might be worth checking out if you have a link to used items for sale in your area.

I am currently having an issue with my converted pool filter. It worked well but the backwash didn't clean it enough So this couldn't come at a better time. Sorry about the leak... Frustrating How would I do this system outside?

Setting up a similar system to mine wouldn't be all that difficult and for the most part would be dependant on the type of piping/tubing used. The main component would be the three way valve of the appropriate size, in my case 1.5". I would suggest using rigid pvc or abs pipe if at all possible as the fittings are readily available. I use the pool hose as it was much less expensive however the fittings can be a little difficult to find. As for the blower a good strong wet/dry vac with a blower function would work well. As you saw in the video following about two minutes of air agitation of the media the water went from disgusting to crystal clear. I'm over the moon with the end result despite the leak issue. 👍🏻
