Converting a lawnmower into a brush mower!

In this video, I modify a cheap lawnmower. I got to be able to handle tall, thick grass, and even brush. Towards the end of the video, I test it out.

I did this many years ago for crazy thick grass in the backyard. Works like a charm. I had to weld a brace across the front though. The wheels start to camber after a while. Also i left the big wheels on the back like normal.

Interesting. Yes, I made another one of these with a more powerful engine, and they do quite well in tall grass and weeds.

I'm 43. Been mowing and weed whacking barefoot since I was a child. Never once had an issue. If anything, it makes you more careful.

This is the best modification for push mowers and even riding mowers, just enforce it with 1 inch perpendicularly placed flat bar where cut. It is so counterproductive and inefficient to have the front guard blocking cutting. Its just as safe to cut that portion out of the deck I have found over hundreds of cuts hundreds of hours. The next good upgrade for these single blade mowers, is to have custom blades that are s-shaped. They work like rotating sickles, and it is the best way to cut rotationally. The problem is nobody makes, these, except some robotic cordless mowers have them and they work well are very high end and very expensive. If the idiots want us saving gas and cutting omissions, make a more efficient mower. Not some stupid self-propelled heavyweight boat anchor in 2 yrs that is literally less than 3 times effective as your mower there that you modified. I modified mine years ago, it is the superior way of doing it. The walmart 89.99 briggs flat head with metal rectangular gas tank and plastic carburetors are actually extremely reliable, not that well made, but this one has served me well, with all original parts except muffler and primer bulb, and it has worked perfect every time if there is no dirt or water in the gas tank, just keep them out of the rain and change the oil and clean the tank every year and they will last you 20 years used every week every season every year. I actually might be making myself an s blade out of 1/4 inch hardened steel sheet just because nobody makes them. Literally cost would be exactly the same as the straight blades, because, they come from a roll of sheet metal and they are stamped out from patterns that completely butt up to one another. There is literally no reason why every mower and mower blade shouldnt be this way. Anyone telling me otherwise can stuffit.

You could flatten the original blade and sharpen the top edge of it so it sythes into the grass or brush you are heading towards.

Swap the wheels over leave it low at the frunt when you get high grass the big wheels on the back will help to leaver it over the tall grass when you push down on handle

If you guys hit a bottle or something though it would break it up into a million pieces and get glass all over the place though because the front of your mower is now completely open so I don't know if that was a good idea but whatever it's interesting anyways!

Yeah, it makes it a little more likely to run over stuff, I like to make sure there's nothing in the grass I'm cutting before I cut it to avoid issues like this. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

why struggle to cut the top piece off why no0t just bend it up....would even help to prevent throw backs of twigs and branches....... God knows what you're gonna hit

If you couldn't tell, the front was curved, you can't bend metal parallel to its curvature very easily, it would've been extremely difficult and caused a bunch of creasing in folding that would look terrible. That's why I cut it off.

It's a steel deck mower. Not aluminum

You think so, it feels too light to be steel, but I could be wrong. That does make sense because aluminum doesn't rust and the deck was definitely rusted a little.
