A straight grip on a double trigger side by side shotgun is often desired. Watch as Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, removes the pistol grip on a Winchester Model 21 side by side shotgun and converts it to a straight grip design. To complete the project the stock is refinished and rechecked to take on a factory appearance.

I can’t imagine cutting the stock on an original Model 21 that was in such good condition, even if it had been refinished.

Just collect stuff one thing at a time..... a small secondhand lathe and a medium weight drill press will get you started. A DC inverter welder can be used with a Tig torch, or use a Mig, which can do it too (and sometimes better)...

I did this to a cheap O/U that I have from the early 70's. All I had was a wood rasp and some sand paper. I smoothed the stock....no checkering at all .... and then stained it. Looks ok and shoots as good as I do and that's nothing to brag about.

It's a real pleasure to watch someone who truly knows and does his job with such a high degree of precision and care. Even on guns that aren't the real high end guns. I believe that's because whether it had cost 20 thousand or 1 thousand to purchase, these owners are looking for the same high degree of precision and care for the guns they can afford and when it's sent to you, they get it.

As we all should know, model 21s, are the the " nplus ultra" of the Winchester line, being hand crafted, to fit the end user! So many illuminaries, such as 4obert Stack, and so many of our beloved stars of old, required shotguns be intimately fitted, so they could get the most from their pride and joy... And the fit was always exquisite! Both in steel, and walnut!!!!

Beautiful work! I can tell even if I was hands on & inspecting this, no one would ever know this was previously a pistol grip stock.

I'm addicted to watching these videos. I must watch each one several times. Mostly because they put me to sleep. I have repaired and refinished my share of firearms in my life and one that I put nearly as much effort into it as this video. But then I have never used it again because it was too nice to take to the field. Now I take a more utilitarian approach making it useful and a good candidate for someone else to complete the process into an heirloom.

Fasinating, fasinating! I would not have imagined how versitil the use of epoxy is here. (1) it wood tones correctly with sanding dust (2) checkers like the wood, (3) stains like the wood to blend in perfectly. I have a wrecked Parker stock, broken in half at the wrist that after gluing up I will use the 'Larry Epoxy Method' to deal with the cosmetics. Thanks for this gem of information!

Immature and immoral vulgarity/profanity would only be involved if that was already in your heart.
