Useful for homeless and portable at any hour for emergencies or a rotating schedule in any location with a hydrant. Would be advantageous over placing them in locations subject to staffing and monetary issues. City always has surplus buses .

This is awesome. First bus converted was Muni 2831. 2nd one I've seen was 2826 (Exx-ACT 2857). I know they have a 3rd one 2822, but I don't think it's been converted yet. They even got a 4th one 2844, but I found it at Metro Trans Bus missing some parts and it had a broken window.

An amazing service ! I am a retiree and I was thinking of mobile living quarters with showers and laundry services for th homeless . I live in Canada with extremely cold winters and what I learnt from the pandemic is that the homeless population moves though large cities . It was difficult for public health officials to control the spread and test the homeless population . It has been extremely hot this summer. Temperatures in excess of 40 C. I cycle 20 k each day and I thought of how a homeless person would feel without a shower or laundry . That is how I found this video .

I now work for a non profit that is focused on supporting the engineering for these types of community projects. I will bring your requeat to my board so we can figure out how to start dedicating resources to the project. I have access to a location in portland where we could do a bus retrofit. What I'm seeing appears terribly inefficient; look no further than what the RV and pleasure boat community are doing in terms of design which they've gotten all figured out. If you can hook into outboard water and discharge, then there's no reason why a vehicle the size of a city bus can't accommodate at least 10 complete bathrooms; again, look to the RV community. While it's all nice to offer "pleasant accommodations", this is a situation that calls for more efficiency so more people can be served, and don't be misled by what might appear to be impossibly small - good designs can be small, functional, efficient, and luxurious all at the same time.
@somuchtoseeanddo4 жыл бұрын
Indeed. Simple math - 4,000 showers become 20,000. Efficiency is needed, given the need of 1,000s of people on any given day, but at least this is a start.

You are a step, in the right direction, that everyone should be following. I am an expert in the field of the needs of the homeless, so I must say what is needed are bathtubs, washers and dryers, refrigerator freezers, stoves, full solar power, and a myriad of other services. Homeless people need these in buses that should be converted, then given to them, along with large areas to park in, that are near necessity stores, location independent incomes, etc.. Thank you for creating, and sharing, this video, your contributions to a lifestyle which should always have been, for everyone, for love, peace, understanding, unity, etc., and, if you ever run across anyone giving away equipment, such as, but not limited to, solar, batteries, water heaters, jacuzzis, bath tubs, washing machines, etc., motorhomes, property, any craft, be they amphibious, aerial, terraneal, spacial, subterraneal, etc., that can be converted into motorhomes, etc. please let us know, because we can use as much as we can get. Part of the problem with doing this is building to various codes and ADA rules that make it both more expensive and larger than any bathroom in my own house. Doing this on a bus chassis should be using designs from the RV industry or locker room style where all enclosed areas are no more than 5 x 5 ft, instead of 10 x 8 ft. (8 ft is the width of a bus) BTW, I see similar design issues with low income housing where there are more "standard features" than similar sized private housing.

Ignorant Frank. Ignorant rest of you who write negative BS about helping these ostracized and stigmatized PEOPLE, yes, people, on the fringes of our society. Ignored, and often victims of terrible violence. Many of these people have psychiatric issues, ( untreated with simply not enough professionals who can or will treat them without being paid) and a government which does not actively pursue the problem of mental health disparity n this country. Many are newly homeless who simply lost their jobs and homes. Homeless people do not have access to transportation readily and if you were homeless would you want people videotaping you? Nice stigma on top of what they experience already. Try applying for a job or interacting with the public in anyway that could possibly improve your life circumstance being dirty and smelling terribly after days or weeks without a shower. Imagine how much that does for your self esteem and perpetuates the problem. Stop being ignorant and actually get involved if you have a problem with this kind of charitable work!
