Wow, what an incredible idea. So much love and compassion. I love working with the homeless and the poor. I've been poor and homeless before, so I know what it feels like. What we take for granted every day, like showers, brushing our teeth and hair, and having a warm, dry place to sleep, many of these people can only dream about. God bless you all with your efforts, and I hope you do get this idea spread around the world. These people don't need hand outs, they need hands up, and that's what you are giving them.

This is amazing. People lose their sense of self and as they stated in this video, they can get reconnected... and perhaps its a small stepping stone towards better things in the future. The support, the care, and the consideration that we all possess the capacity for, can affect others in ways we can't probably even grasp... so do it... in whatever way you can. And I have to say... that I am always baffled by these asshats that give videos depicting this type of good work a thumbs down. What possibly could be construed as negative? Is it because it sheds light on the fact you don't have an ounce of compassion in your bodies? It doesn't make sense and it doesn't compute that you would not want to help your fellow human or think or "see" anything here that is not a good thing. I sure hope that you never find yourself in a place of need and heaven-forbid, don't get it.

Ever since I've heard some restaurants open up earlier just to give baths to homeless people, I've always dreamed of this "service". I mean, food is everywhere. You can buy it, work for it, beg for it, receive it... but no one would offer you a bath. And for many, like I do, a bath signifies a preparedness for something worthwhile. A bath before going to work, going on a date, meeting friends, going home after two hours in the gym or going to bed for that deep slumber you've been craving since Thursday. But the homeless do not have it; it's like, they are never going anywhere. So the day repeats itself like before, without the desire to move forward. Another day being a nobody, an outcast, a dirty rag on some street corner... and sometimes you find yourself envying some clean dog. I wish many would offer baths to these people; because that would mean offering them some hope.

This is a wonderful solution to making people feel better bc I always feel better after a shower. Do the homeless find you by word of mouth? Do they have a comb, toothbrush, toothpaste? Those of us who have these things, take it for granted until it's gone. Do they have clean clothes to put on after they shower? How do they get their clothes washed?

This is a wonderful idea. I have always thought just how hard it must be for a homeless to stay clean. There are no homeless people living in the streets of Finland, so I don't really know how their care is arranged. I have always wondered what options homeless people have to stay clean and I have thought that same organisations that feed homeless, also offer free shovers, but apparently this is not the case?
@flyinspirals8 жыл бұрын
+Sienisota +Sienisota Well... their care is *not* arranged, that's why they're homeless. In theory, there are some services (charitable or government, usually charitable) that can partly help them, but... there are never enough. So, even if there's a homeless shelter nearby, if all the beds are taken for the night (and in most places, they always are...) society expects them to sleep on the street. Maybe they can beg or get an odd job (f they can work, and if there's a job) to get enough money to pay for a bed for the night... if they can find a bed (one they can afford). And they're confronted with these same problems every single day. (It's hard to get even a one-day job if you haven't taken a shower in a week and there are clean people also ready to take that job.) There may be some programs homeless persons can enter (depends on the city) to work toward getting off the street, but sometimes, people can't live up to a set of rules and so are disqualified (at least temporarily). Sometimes, they're in a place where no help is available -- one reason why many thoughtless 'regular people' don't like programs to help the homeless is that such programs can 'attract' homeless people from other places... Society's 'arrangement' is for truly homeless people to live on the streets like stray dogs, unless and until they can get off... It's a beautiful thing here, the showers.
@flyinspirals8 жыл бұрын
+Sienisota I hope you can tell me something about how Finland keeps people from 'falling through the cracks', especially if they have mental illness or drug/alcohol problems that make it hard for people to help themselves and for others to help them?
@fayettevillain11718 жыл бұрын
+Sienisota There are homeless people who are unseen as well
@Sienisota8 жыл бұрын
+flyinspirals In Finland, the greatest problem we face is, roughly translating, "becoming isolated", those people who both are unemployed and suffer from addiction and/or mental health issues. These people also have no family or friends. Finland has a system in witch everyone can be given enough money to rent a small, cheap apartment and for food, water and electricity. Some of the apartments are owned by our goverment for just that. We have free services that help you finding a job, get free healthcare to treat addiction or mental or non mental sickness. How ever, you need to ask for those services. Many have family or friends who notifie that this person needs help. But those who are alone and too far gone to ask government for help are "the isolated". Our government is currently trying to find ways to reach these people and stop isolation before it starts.
@Sienisota8 жыл бұрын
+Chichi Chichi Oppai Yes, but in Finland, the outside temperature goes to -20 or -30 Celsius degrees every winter. If we had literal homeless people, those people would freeze and their bodies would be found every winter. That is not happening. Sometimes a person won't reach their home before they pass out outside, either because of illness or intoxication. That is when someone may die of hypothermia, if no one sees them and dials the emergency number. In Finland there are heavy penalties for leaving someone outside in the cold without calling help to them. But people don't die because they do not have a place to go and get warm in.
