it turns out that some fractions don't have actual binary representations, they are just approximations like the one above

I want to convert 0.088 or 0.018 to binary until the second repeat but i couldnt find repetition for both of them. It is endless. How do i know when to stop when i cant find the repetition?
@JossoJJossoJ2 жыл бұрын
Actually the decimal part is similar to the integral part but instead of dividing by 2, it's dividing by 1/2 and switching the roles of quotients and remainders. The result is read top-down instead of bottom-up.

Sir .. I have a doubt !!! Can we stop at the part where we have to multiply 0.4 with 2 because we can already predict that it's gonna repeat !
@EnggClasses4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Bindu. Yes one can stop at that point. Sometimes in the numerical itself they mention carry out 5 iterations something like that. If nothing is mentioned, you can stop at that point, where one feels it's going to be repeated.

Hello! I have a question to convert decimal into binary. I have done this with the help above method, but I am not sure if the answer is correct or not. Question: 0.625 decimal into binary. The answer is 0.101000110. Kindly, tell me the correct answer. I will be really grateful for this.
@EnggClasses4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Sadia. Here is the answer for your question. 0.625 * 2 = 1.25 0.25 * 2 = 0.5 0.5 * 2 = 1.0 0 * 2 = 0 and the process stops here.. therefore the answer is 0.101

@EnggClasses4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Sohaib. Yes, you need to take the whole value after dot. In the example you mentioned the iterations go like this. .101*2 = .202 .202*2 = .404 .404*2 = .808 .808*2 = 1.616 .616*2 = 1.232 .232*2 = .464 and so on... Hope this helps Sohaib.

1.17, after how many iteration/any condition to leave the process of iteration.
@EnggClasses4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Vishnu. With respect to number of iterations there are 3 possibilities. 1) You may get zero at the fractional part and stop the process. 2) You never get zero at the fractional part but you will get a pattern that keeps repeating and you may stop at that point. 3) You neither get zero or nor get any pattern that keeps repeating, in such case you may stop the process after 5-6 iterations. In such case, in the numerical itself they mention the number of iterations to be carried out. If nothing is mentioned then 5-6 iterations are ideal. Hope this helps!
