The e36 transmission has a 1:1 5th gear for improved efficiency on highway. That is why the rear end is a lower number, because there is no overdrive. I had an open diff. I used metal plate put in my spider gears and welded. I had an e30 though, very little weight in the back. Even less after I removed all the tar from the trunk.

Hey did they say anything about taking out the fat spacer at the bottom of the carrier? I’m pretty sure you have to do that when you add the extra clutch. I got the whole carrier set from racing diffs with 80% and the selectable ramps, it works great. Some things I learned: don’t mess with the bearings or pinion unless they are smoked and you are ready to buy all the output spacers and do a full rebuild. Just keep the spacers in the correct sides and put it back together. Be careful with those little Allen bolts, you can grind down the Allen socket flat for better engagement, but new hex head bolts work, they just have a finer thread pitch. I like using the paper gasket and shellac, but honestly any oil proof RTV is fine for the cover, and you used the right gear oil 90-140 (or 80/85/90-140) with the LSD additive. People here in the US with stock e36 trans usually prefer the 3.91 over the 3.15 LSD, but since I got the wide ratio T56 behind my LS, it works fine for me. Hope all is well! 😎

Yeah I left the spacer out, I think BMW just designed it for people to put extra LSD plates in haha

So its just that simple to increase locking? I just need those racingdiff clutch plates and (3 clutch plates) will give it 40% locking?

Yes exactly

How long do these hold up? I read in a Forum that a guy managed to destroy it it 1 week.
