Invest in better 8mm film transfer systems. The wolverine type film scanners are not good compared to anything else out there. But im glad you use elgato. Its easy and it works and you get good transfers using it. Wish i could come and see your shop and talk and trade ideas.

I will get something when it comes available. But the reels machine is far superior to the wolverine. And it is really good with crispy film. Very gentle.

I wanted to get that 8mm Elmo set up on eBay but the guy doesn’t have any example footage.

@EmeraldCoastDigitizing reels scanners have register problems. Your eyes have come used to it so you don't see it. All these wolverine type scanners have this problem. The stop click stop click produces this issue

What lap tops do you like to use? Model and size of drives.

Hi, can you digitize the regular video eight cassettes? The ones that came before digital eight? Also, do you have a website or something where I can find your pricing? Thanks.

What is your color coding on the stickers
@EmeraldCoastDigitizing10 ай бұрын
Just numbering for tapes. I color each job differently that way there are no mix ups. Just a redundancy

El gato software will record a 6 hour vhs tape ? or will it break it down to 2gb files automatically ?
@EmeraldCoastDigitizing5 күн бұрын
Good question. So with my workflow. I only transfer tapes while I’m in the building. So I always check the recordings. If they reach two hrs I will notice and stop the recording and start a new one :)

Just got a Reels, after trying another machine that had trouble and often jammed. Reels handles films great, but... I have trouble getting a stable picture. Sometimes it flutters, sometimes it doesn't. Can't figure out a rhyme or reason -- sometimes with the same film! (If there's a problem, I try more than once.) Any hints to fix this? I'm following instructions. What am I doing wrong?
@EmeraldCoastDigitizing4 ай бұрын
I don’t have the flutter issue. Only issues I have are broken sprocket holes and splices
@stephendsullivan3 ай бұрын
@@EmeraldCoastDigitizing Flutter is apparently caused by pinching in the feed reel and/or misalignment of the feed sprocket. Switching the switch back and forth (sometimes more than once) usually solves it. And re-reeling a warped reel is a good idea, too. Turns out even plastic reels can warp and pinch.

Which 8mm scan is the best the Kodak or wolverine
@EmeraldCoastDigitizing10 ай бұрын
I’d say the Kodak. I’ve had 3 different wolverines and had problems with all of them. They do the job but are just problematic. I like the reels best.
@KRAFTWERK2K610 ай бұрын
None of them actually. They are more or less the same OEM hardware with different brand slapped onto them and minimal changes in the internal software but sadly they are all not providing a true 24p picture and most super 8 home movies were shot at 18fps anyway and the machines also have a really low bitrate AND wrong aspect ratio as well. They are like the Super 8 version of those 6 megapixel camera photo "scanners" that are sold everywhere, which are the worst thing you can do to your film negatives. The only actually good 8mm / Super 8 filmscanners are actual telecine machines (like a Retroscan Universal MK1) that not only run in realtime instead of frame by frame but also have a much better image quality. Sure they cost more but you should not cheap out on that. If you can afford it, get it and avoid these cheapo plastic Super 8 scanners that are flooding the market. They simply suck.

30 minutes to do a 3 minute film. Ouch!!! But the scanner does work.
@EmeraldCoastDigitizing10 ай бұрын
No big deal. I have plenty of stuff to do while they run. And I don’t have to sit there and focus on it. If I had projector based transfer system I would have to focus on the film job only when it comes in. Now I just do it along side my tape transfers. Just slowly pick away at it in the background.

I’ve gotten to where I can flip reels on all 3 in about 3 minutes
