Hi Kent. If I converted my RRSP to a RRIF before age 65, I realize that I would have to take a minimum amount out each year (“melting down”) but do I have to wait until age 65 to be able to income split this RRIF withdrawal with my spouse (we are both the same age). Thanks for your input.
@K4Financial2 жыл бұрын
Yes, once you’re 65 it will allow you to split it, unfortunately not before.

I'm sorry, but too much banter, please get to the point ... ughh
@mike330i3 жыл бұрын
wouldn't a simple Google search will show the minimum RRIF withdrawal rate per year?

There's many tax calculators on line that can tell you how much tax you'll pay

I retired at age 62 and all my RRSP was converted to RRIF, Do you think its a good moved.
@K4Financial3 жыл бұрын
Hard to know for sure. Probably fine.

In Sean's father's case, would he have been able to convert the RRSP to a RIFF but use a younger spouses age? There is a 6 year gap between my husband and myself so we used my age for his RIFF. You have to set it up with that request. It is a card to play if your situation warrants it.
@K4Financial3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it makes sense to do it based on that, but in Sean’s case his mother passed away over a decade ago.
@analogconversation56903 жыл бұрын
Very sorry to hear that. Good that Sean is dialed in to what his Dad needs. Glad to see you back!

@ 9.09 minutes, it is stupid to ask bank for accountants/ taxation questions. Even a banker knows the answer , they will refer to tax/ accountants as bankers r not supposed to offer advice on taxation issues
@K4Financial2 жыл бұрын
Financial Planning is all about tax planning. Accountants don’t deal with tax planning in the same way we do and there is a use for both. If your advisor isn’t capable of giving you basic advice on tax planning, then what’s the point of asking them anything?
