Too bad no footage from the trial. Would have loved to see these guys’ reactions when their denials were rejected.

1. Hersl was infamous in the entire region for being the most violent cop. Even Wayne Jenkins - the second head of the Gun Trace unit described Hersl as "the most corrupt cop in Baltimore"...which Hersl's letters rather bear out. Total inability to admit to anything...he's a hero, he's great.. Jesus. 2 I love that he claims he reported other cops to the first head of the Gun Trace Unit. Why? Because Hersl, the first head of the unit, and the 2 cops Hersl claims he reported, were ALL watched together doing illegal stops and searches. 3. the testimony of all the cops who admitted what they'd done, and did so pretty much upfront - because they weren't in denial, didn't think they were great guys and better than everyone else, ie weren't narcissists - their testimony agreed exactly about what Hersl had done, how much he'd stolen on each occasion etc And these statements were made independently. If one of them had been found to tell a lie, they would have lost their entire deal. THey never would have risked that for Hersl, either to cover for him or to lie about him. He is such a total piece of shit. And a profound profound racist.

@ryry32 The race element had to do with the victims, not the cops. And not just the victims of the gun trace lot but of the Baltimore police generally. It absolutely is a race issue, for many many reasons.

I was locked up with him at a medical prison in Rochester, Minnesota.. A guy confronted him that was already doing time there... Saying he planted drugs on him back in the day... hershal went to the C.O. and told him about the situation and they transferred him before the guy could make a move on him.

@@freethinker202 Do you think this was the right thing for the CO to have done. By the way, why is Hersl in medical prison. I noticed that several of these guys were - well, the white ones.

I went for the work Cadre, and it's a low security prison so you don't really have stabbings... With that being said, they prolly went to medical prison to protect them, because they ex cops and targets would be on their backs anywhere else... A dirty detective was there as well (unrelated to their case) they had him at a medical prison and he was totally healthy... So that would be my best guess.

@@freethinker202 Thank you very much for the answer. I rather thought that might be the case. I honestly don't know what I think about their being given special treatment in this manner. I don't approve of anyone having to face violence or being fearful of it. But many do, but not all are able to go to medical prison.

At his trial, Dan Hersl’s defense was that, since he took thousands from money seized without a warrant, he was guilty of _theft,_ not _robbery,_ so the charge of racketeering against him was invalid.

Get the book _We Own This City_ by Justin Fenton. I’m almost finished reading it, which is why I’m here. Dan Hersl was one of the dirtiest of the bad cops, and he’s a lying sack of shirt. It’s interesting that this is no racist white cop story. Jemel Rayam was even dirtier than Hersl. And this is not limited to Baltimore. The book tells of cops in Philadelphia dangling someone off a balcony by their ankles so he’d give up the dope and cash to them.
