Convoy S6 SFT40: The Ultimate Affordable Pocket Thrower?

My T3 copper version fell off from the 6th floor (I shook the dirt out of my bag... and I did't noticed that I forget to remove the flashlight). It made a hard impact on the concrete (nearly missed the sand pit where kids used to play in old times). Nothing gone wrong, except some cosmetic issue. It landed on its tailend, one of the "ears" bent, yet it still can tailstand. Glass didn't break out. The battery's warpfoil ripped off from the impact force. It's a Lumintop 14500 battery with onboard charging. Everything works fine even with the battery. Fortunatelly nobody was around. You can imagine what could happen if someone gets hit by a 150grams thing from 15-18meters high about. So yes, Convoy makes hell of a tough flashlights.

Wow. That's a proper durability test haha. I'm surprised the glass didn't break. But yeah these copper lights are ridiculously heavy when you get to the S2+ onwards. T3 is manageable for EDC. Damn, I wanna get one now.

Additional focusing is provided by changing the distance from the LED to the reflector; the optimal light spot can be achieved by placing spacers under the reflector or, conversely, reducing them.

Must take a bit of trial and error to get things right. And a lux meter to measure slight changes.

I have the S3 SFT40 and I have seen the throw at 400m. Convoy lights are really impressive.

I was about to say you could get this same functionality on the Convoy S2 (not S2+, just S2), but colour me surprised, Convoy doesn't seem to have it on sale anymore. Okay. One thing I really appreciate in such a deep reflector is, it reduces the spill angle by a lot, but also makes it brighter. I find it significantly more usable than a too-wide and dim spill.

Thank you mate. The main difference is in the appearance/design, and the reflector. The S6 has a longer reflector that will increase throw.

Nice light! I know you have an M2 with sft40 too. Maybe there's a comparison video you can do between the two. I liked the M2 better as it looked nicer .

My M2 has a CULPM1 emitter but even if it had the SFT40, it would outthrow the S2+ and S6 easily.

Batman's on his way! Great review, as always. I honestly don't understand why people want 5A lights of this size. I personally think anything over 2A is too much.

Thanks mate. Problem with 5A+ is that it creates a lot of heat. But I like having that extra brightness if you need it. And you can also reduce it to 2.5A on max using the 50% UI.

@@DarrenYeoYT True, but then you're limited to only 2 group options which are essentially the same. Oh well, Simon already offers a ton of options anyway, including the B35AM at 2.4A, or the SST20, 219 and LH351D at 3A, so I'm guessing I would pick one of those, although I have no idea what the differences between all those emitters are, will need to do some research.

Oh, but those lower current emitters also run at double the voltage, so it's six and half a dozen, right? I guess those 50% modes are my only option then

For a single cell light like this, it works well. From what I understand, it burns off the excess voltage through a resistor, so dual cells would run way too hot and inefficient. the 8A buck driver would result in higher output and throw, but also more heat.

@DarrenYeoYT Okay, thanks! I heard that the 17mm 5amp buck drivers were lacking in performance a year ago, since the output decreased faster than the linear driver. But some guys said that Simon would change the buck ones to better ones in the next batch. Do you think that Simon has gotten the new better ones since a year has past? Anyways, what driver for the s8 sft40 5000k would you recommend if I want High max output, many different customizable levels of output, consistent output ( at 50%) for longer periods (~20 min), good heat distribution and long run time (efficiency)? Thanks!

Not sure whether the 5A buck drivers have been upgraded. But the 8A buck would be more powerful - I have that exact one in my S2+ brass. Just don't keep it on 100% for too long 😅

M2 will outperform this easily in throw, sustained output. But it's much larger. Depends man, for EDC, this is better. But you can still carry the M2, just will be more bulky.

It looks like 5mm reflector hole, not sure about the gasket - it looks like there is no gasket.
