Conway Scenic: 252 to the Ball Signal

On September 3, 2017 history was made as the Conway Scenic sent up a passenger train to Whitefield, NH where the last operational ball signal stands. The signal guards the former tracks of the Maine Central and the Boston & Maine, and it was fitting to have former MEC GP38 252 lead the train up the Mountain Division to Whitefield. The train is seen at various locations between Intervale and Whitefield.

Besides this excursion, how often is this line used to Whitefield? Does it extend past Whitefield?

The operational portion of the Mountain Division ends in Whitefield where the rest of the tracks going east are abandoned, it used to continue to St. Johnsbury Vt, to continue on the rail line, you have either back track to Quebec Junction or travel on the Boston and Maine line to Berlin, which is New Hampshire Central Railroad's territory. Extending past Fabyan's is a rarity for Conway, typically the only trains going through are new locomotives and cars arriving by rail, or the occasional freight move, and I believe they have ceased their Red Ball Special trains due to schedule conflicts with New Hampshire Central, I may be wrong about this though.

They have about 7 operational locomotives including #7470. They’ve ran a photo freight with every locomotive except #216.

252 comes back this year so there’s no surprise we could see it pull a train up to Hazens with it’s old K5LA.
