My man did almost 16 years and got out almost 2 years ago. He’s still adjusting. It was 2002 when he went in so technology changed drastically. It’s funny because he always leaves lights on in the house or doesn’t close cabinets and doors because he’s just not used to doing things like that. He came out and is doing so great! My brother did 13 years + change, and even though he's been home for 2, he still has moments that are just... difficult for him. He had his daily routine, working out, hitting the yard, congregating, church on Sunday, everything. What's really helped him is keeping a pocket notebook and checklists he goes over day after day until he doesn't need them, but he still has some from the day after he got out he goes over daily regardless. I'm only relating this in the hopes that maybe someone else adopts that and it helps them in their struggles. If you have loved ones going through the same, shoot em a text, pick up the phone, "You good? You okay?" It means a lot because the fear of freedom is absolutely real.
