one of the things I like about Cook is that he is very conventionally masculine, in that he's super aggressive and likes to show off his bravado, BUT he's also not afraid to be emotional with his male friends and say that he loves them and even kiss them. I think that's important, for people to see a "masculine" guy be like that and for him still to be seen as masculine.

As shitty as Cook sometimes was, there will always be traits of him and actions that he makes that I admire and love him for. He loved his friends, I don't think any gen 2 character cared for the group as much as Cook. He had a deep chat with Emily, countlessly told JJ and Freddie how much he loved them, was there for Effy after she had her treatment and was there for Naomi when she was having a shitty time. He loved his little brother and although he wasn't the best example, tried his hardest. But one of the things I will always respect him for is when he tries to sleep with Naomi and as soon as she says 'this isn't a goer,' he just stops. No questions asked. He doesn't push her, he lets her decide and even though he makes a joke, he really does care and he was gentle with Panda when she lost her virginity (despite being with Thomas at the time.) Cook was a genuinely good person. And I don't think enough people looked past the bravado he put on.

Cook was the best part of Skins for me. I fucking loved him. Loved how rough around the edges he was and how fiercely loyal he was to the ones he loved. Love the friendship between him, Freddie and JJ and how protective he was of JJ. He deserved better than Effy. The rest of the storys got 30 mins ish and Cook only gets 15? But he's Cook. I hated whenever Freddie and Cook fought. They were such good friends. I smiled so big whenever they kissed or said I love you. They were great friends, but Cook was always fucking things up. And I never wanted Effy to get between them. I just wanted them both to help her, but I didn’t want her to end up with either of them to be honest. Because romance wasn’t going to save her.

It's great at the end that his arc is one of ultimately rejecting the violent impulses caused by his damaged life. Its like Clint Eastwood says in Unforgiven, "its a hell of a thing killing a man." Violence should never be portrayed as entertainment or fun on TV. This showed how to do it right.
