I love this story so much with these two 🥺 The I was expecting something along: Cotton cookie had died and guided Sherbert cookie to their favorite spot in the village via. message from the kid cookies. When he gets their, expecting cotton cookie, he finds another note written by cotton cookie saying: "How many memories we've created. Do you remember when I had journeyed to get that flower to say goodbye to you for one last time? I've never forgotten it. I cherished all of them and i wouldve held out longer, but this lantern's light is fading, I don't have much more time left. Sherbert cookie... may we meet in another life" Sherbert cookie looks towards the stars and says "I promise that Cotton cookie, may we meet again"

after reading the wiki (not sure if its official or not) judging by how they react, theres a chance cotton cookie couldnt actually see him, and thats what makes me extremely sad about she can see the wind, feel the wind and all, but cant see his physical form whatsoever, and even if its not the case, that can be my headcannon where cotton cant actually see him, only feel his presence
