Hi guys, Australian here, wallabies are extremely skittish and usually run away before you get a glimpse of them, they also blend in with the foliage very well and almost become invisible. So props to this guy, seems like you did quite a bit of research for this, good content 👍

Hi Cookie, Just stumbled on your channel and can confirm we have wallabies here in the leafy Surrey countryside they've been spotted and photographed in the Godalming/Hurtmore/Shackleford area along the A3 London to Portsmouth Trunk Rd corridor also nearby in the Bramley/Shalford/Wonersh/Shamley Green areas, I was surprised as anyone to discover this Anyway Cheers

there are a few Scottish specialities that you could add to this series... sea otter, golden Eagle, white-tailed sea Eagle, crested Tit and corn Crake. in fact rare and interesting birds (like the parakeets) could make for a series all in its self... would need at least a 300mm lens for your camera though. be interesting to see... i think you could make it work.

Mate, great video. Congrats on finding them. I had no idea they were wild in the UK. If you go searching for an elusive animal again, check out how their vision works. Wallaby’s have excellent eyesight, especially in the blue/green spectrum. Blue is actually the worst color you could wear to try and get close to them. You may have been able to find them sooner and gotten closer with a different outfit on.

I was stationed at RAF Mildenhall back in 1980-82. I worked as a mechanic on the base. From time to time we needed parts from other bases and I would sometimes be tasked with taking a truck and driving from our base to others since I knew my way around the country better than most of the others. By the way, one of my off time hobbies was driving around England and visiting many of the zoos and wildlife parks that existed back then.....and there were MANY. I had visited Whipsnade Zoo many times previously. ANYWAY......me and another fellow were in our American Chevy Pickup truck driving down to Oxford to get some parts. We were on a two lane country road and low and behold we turned a curve and there was a field with about 20 Wallabies just grazing away. We stopped and looked at them, they seemed unconcerned with us. I was told later that they were progeny from the many wallabies that roamed Whipsnade...at the time, when you visited Whipsnade Zoo there were free roaming wallabies in the park....just like you might see squirrels here in America in parks. I guess things are a lot more tight in the UK with the exotics, I've since read how many of the parks have closed. Including my fave park in Norfolk, Kilverstone Latin American wildlife park,,,,,I'd visited that place so many times, near Thetford. I met Lady Fisher there.

Cookie, could you try this in the Peak District? I believe there hasn’t been a sighting since 2009 but there used to be quite a stable population and there may be 1 or 2 still there. I believe the Roaches is the specific area they used to be in.

Well done you two! An amazing quest and result! I know that they exist in Derbyshire. And a couple of years ago I saw a dead one along the A12 in Essex. It was the grey that drew both mine and my passengers' attention. We had passed the usual quota of 'grey' badgers and reddish foxes and muntjacs, but we saw the long tail. I said, 'That was a wallaby!' and the lady with me said 'I was going to say the same thing!'

The Derbyshire ones, are they from the Roaches per chance? My research took me there and after numerous conversations with wildlife trust etc, i've come to the conclusion they aren't there but if you know something I don't, I'm all ears! I'd love to film them in England. Cool about the Essex one too! seems they get about like haha

A few years ago I was living in Sussex, and I was doing some PT for an Australian guy who was a succesful businessman. His house had at least 15 acres of land. After one training session he said to me 'do you wanna see my wallabies?' At first I was a bit shocked, then I realised that he meant what he said. So we went out into his garden and he took me across to a field that must have been around 2 acres or more, with an 8 foot fence all around. Sure enough there were a load of wallabies bouncing around and eating from a trough. I asked him how many there were, but he didn't know, he just said that he had put in 6 or so a few years before, but I could see at least 20 without looking too far. So they must have been quite happy, and they looked very healthy. The point is that if a few manged to escape then he wouldn't have noticed.

Little known fact: there are wallabies in Hawaii. Where: Kalihi Valley in Honolulu. When & why: Two wallabies escaped from a private zoo into the valley in 1916. Today there is a small population of these little guys living up high in the valley. It's my understanding that genetic research has done on these guys and it's been determined that they've undergone some significant genetic changes...sort of evolving into a sub-species. How much of this is true, I'm not sure, but they are in the valley and have been chilling there for over 100 years.

Theres still talks of culling the wallabies on loch lomond because the damage the habit for rare ground nesting species of birds. Hopefully they can be relocated or even better managed with minimal interference

You should grab an air rifle (definitely an FAC! More then 12ftpounds) and start hunting these guys if they are detrimental to the ecosystem? I bet the meat is pretty good! Although they could be totally non-detrimental to the ecosystem in that case let um be free.

This video has given me to a flashback to seeing some animal that was furry like a mammal and too big to be a rabbit. Too grey/brown to be a fox. Notikely a deer, as to my knowledge there are no deer populations on that part of the M53 motorway. And at the time I was so puzzled. Would be a shame, but interesting had it been a wallaby.
