I found your videos about a month ago while looking for reviews of the Solo Titan camp stove. I have to say that I agree with Achilles Feel, below. While you include informative gear reviews, I enjoy the way those reviews are only a small part of your videos--enough to inform, but without overwhelming the real goal that you stated. I enjoy the careful way you observe nature through your filming techniques. There are countless outdoor videos on KZbin, but yours are always serene, quiet, and calming. I really feel like I enjoyed some of the outdoor experience when I watch them and I do think they go far to move a viewer to actually get out into the wilderness. I see the sights--without ubiquitous background soundtracks--I can hear the birds chirping, the sound of the breeze, the crackling flames, sizzling bacon, and burbling waters. There is no drama, no yelling, just quiet talk and calm surroundings. They are a great escape from the grinding stress of deadlines and email overload at work. Please continue making them this way! I binge watch.

Greetings Martin.Thank you for this excellent detailed review. First the Eagle stainless steel cookware. These products are well designed and of high quality construction. I love the kettles and especially the cast-iron griddle. Indeed stainless steel is durable, but in terms of heat conduction it is not as efficient as aluminium. Where aluminium is softer than stainless steel anodized aluminium makes the aluminium much harder. In bushcraft/ woodsman activities managing fuel is often a concern so I personally go for anodized aluminium and it is also a little lighter for backpacking. I use an anodized kettle from 'Broadstone', it is quite cheap, but well made and efficient. I use a Mors Kochanski Bush Pot which is a good design and very good quality. I also have an old aluminium coffee pot which can be used as a kettle. I do have one stainless steel item though, that is a Vietnam War issue stainless frying pan. I may replace this in the future 'though. Now to the wooden ware. Again these product appear very well designed and useful. However, with the 'kuksa'-style cups I have a bit of an issue. Traditional made kuksa, Guksi, Casa (depending on origin) are made in a very traditional way with great skill using Arctic/ Curly Birch Burl with good reason. The burl is very hard and the grain resists splitting like other woods. Traditional Artisans have long made a living from making these Kuksas ( I have Sami Ancestry) and as such, I am not supportive of many of the cheap wood so called kuksas made by other manufacturers (often mass produced in China). The materials are inferior and they are 'kuksa style' not really kuksas. Kupilka of Finland make robust 'kuksa style' products, but they are made from an interesting composition of resin and wood fibres, they don't call their products kuksa though. Thanks for your excellent videos and enjoy the last of your summer.

Thank you for the overview. As for the gear talk goes, I can kind of understand it. As I see it, two great interests collide. I live with these interests too, so I can see how this might work, and I really have to excuse him. One one end, Martin loves nature and can't live too long without it. On another, Martin has a love for gear and technical stuff and all these things, he wouldn't use years learning to be an audio engineer without it. When Martin was doing audio engineer stuff, free time was all about getting back to nature. When Martin works as a farm hand, the technical side of him doesn't quite get enough. These things have to meld, somehow. And this is, perhaps, a way towards such a blend. Quite the experiment, sure enough, but without experiments you won't learn. Now to the gear. I have two pans from Eagle. One frying pan with copper bottom. It warped pretty fast, and may be the reason this newer pan is all steel. Bimetals almost beg for being warped at such high heat. I lost patience when trying to fry eggs last autumn, and went for a small Primus pan. Which is thicker but also heavier (for the size). I still keep the old one in case of large chunks of meat or something. I also have the wok pan, and this is pre bent so it shouldn't warp so easily. I haven't used it much, as it's rather large, but when you don't need a flat pan, and for stews and other things, it's a fine mid between a pan and a pot. What I miss is a large cup. Shaped like the newest cup you got there, but at the size (and with the deciliter markings) of that small, 3 dl bowl. I like to cut down on the stuff I bring with me, and the same way my deep wooden plate doubles as a cutting board, I'd like something to use both for drinking and for soups and stews. I like to stretch my tea bags and chocolate also, so a 3dl cup is ideal. As for the lav, the biggest issue I have with it is the chest sound. Actors often have lavs hidden in their hair during makeup, but I guess you don't have a makeup artist hiding in the bushes, so it's kind of moot. But perhaps under the brim of your hat? Or under the collar of you shirt (even if that'll give you more of a throat sound). Lavs are mostly used as backup, for precisely such reasons. But of course they're great for wind and for being far away from the camera. Save up for a wireless set, perhaps? (But I know, it's expensive.) Here's a good source for sound for video, by the way: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6THfp6nqa2dr5I

Hello Harald. I really don't think the gear is all that important. What matters is whet we can do with it. That goes for both audio gear and cooking gear. Some gear makes things easier and some makes me frustrated. I try to show the good stuff on my channel. I agree that the frying pan is thin. I guess it is compromise to save weight. So far it seems like it works good if I dont get it to hot. Good sound is a bit subjective, but in general I would say that a high quality shotgun microphone has better audio than a tiny lav mic. I do like this one so far. Not to much noice and a pretty hot and full signal. I have watched a few of Curtis Judds videos. He put out a lot of useful information. He do not say much about audio for backpacking though :) Thanks for watching - Martin

Martin, pay no attention to the "couple" of negative comments. The majority of us really loved this video. I know I speak of behalf of many others when I say we have had several questions regarding some of the gear you have showcased in your past videos. I, along w/many others, really appreciate you taking the time to educate us. I have wanted to know for a long time and you answered several of my questions. I went to the Eagle website and couldn't understand the language. Is there an option w/English? I have wanted to purchased quality "wood" products for years and this is just the ticket. They have a few other items I want to purchase as well. Any more info on how to go about this in "English" would be great. Keep up the fantastic content my friend. Hei Martin. My experience with Eagles wooden products is unfortunately not that good. I´ve had two cups now, and both of them very early developed cracks. Even though I took really good care of them. Rubbing them with cooking oil is a good way to maintain wooden products by the way. I won´t spend any more money on them. My next cup I´m gonna make myself. :-) Fin video. Hilsen Håkon

NorwegianWoods: Brother ...you may be unaware but if you took that microphone you used apart [tho I'm not suggesting you do] you would probably find that the parts that the Giant Squid Audio Lab used to create that microphone were manufactured in China, and that it was only "assembled" by the Giant Squid Audio Lab .... if you take separate pre-made parts and make something with them you are actually making / manufacturing something ... The pickup they [GSAL] used to manufacture that microphone has a set value on ohms etc and can be bought individually as well as in packs of 10 or more from China ... either direct from the manufacturer or from someone who buys them direct from the manufacturer. Pickups [microphones] vary in sensitivity as well as type [mono / stereo ... passive / powered etc]. Sure, some people call pickups microphones, but if you think about it a pickup is useless as a microphone until it is wired into a working audio receiver ... it is only when it is wired into a working audio receiver that it becomes a microphone ... These pickups can be used for other things too, such as converting audio signals into light [if you buy one of those voice activated flashing wrist bands and take it apart you will see there's an audio pickup / microphone on its board]... the more sensitive the pickup the more light reaction you get. The paperwork that came with the [GSAL] microphone should provide you with the pickups specifications that you could then compare to what is available from China. The reason I made this suggestion is because your audio via your [GSAL] microphone sounds as good as the audio on my 808 #18 micro camera and the pickup / microphone on that is only 3mm wide by 2mm deep.... you can checkout it's specs online. For audio recording I use a Sony passive stereo microphone [that cost me 5.66 Euro including post from China about 7 years ago] and I suspect that these days they have improved on them since then, especially as the one I use is no longer available to buy. The one I use for audio recording works off a 10m cable without power. Something else you may also be unaware of ... Sales Hype ... There is an American vehicle Light Bar manufacturer that sells its Light Bars for $600+ ... the Brackets are stamped with the words "Made in the USA" ... what people don't realize is the exact same Light Bars can be bought direct from the Manufacturer from China for $92 including post ... without the box ... the only difference being the bracket doesn't have "Made in the USA" stamped on it, because it is a different bracket. There is an Australian Light Bar manufacturer that does the exact same thing ... they buy from China [in bulk, getting several $'s discount per unit] exchange the bracket and then claim it was "Made in Australia".

Don't get me wrong. I really love these videos. Just something I start noticing, not just in this video, but also previous ones. It's just an opinion :)

Sad. This so called video is just a commercial. Quit the advertisements and get back to camping and bushcrafting!

I suggest you do that yourself, if that's what you want. Me, I think this stuff is interesting. The most important part being honesty...

Aw come on man - it's interesting hearing about new products. i think if you know Norwegian Woods (subscribe) you know he's as honest as they come. What better way to test equipment than to try it while CAMPING & BUSHCRAFTING.

Robert, I suggest you relax buddy and stop complaining. I like others really enjoyed this video and I have always been curious to what "wood" products he was using in past videos. Now, WE all know. Martin is a good, good man and would never lead us astray. If you don't like this type of content, no problem, but stop whining like a school girl as there is absolutely no honor in this. 105 likes and 6 dislikes--one of them, I'm assuming is yours? Think you're in the minority on this one partner:) Peace my friend......

I enjoy learning about new gear. He has shown us gear he is using before and I find it educational and useful! There was one video about knives that I really enjoyed as I’d never heard of any of them. Nice to learn about new gear and see it in use! 👍

Hello Robert. My intention was to show some gear from my part of the world. I have a lot of plans for future videos that don't focus on the equipment at all, but I do have plans for some gear videos as well. My passion is about spending time in the woods. I do want to make videos about topics that is related to that. I really hope the gear presentations don't turn you of to much. Thanks a lot for watching and commenting - Martin
