just run hot water and soap. Its bad but it happens.

Not just the drain but once it gets into the sewers and to water treatment plants the oil and cooking grease solidifies and can clog/break equipment. Not good for septic tanks either. It's best just to pour the old grease into a disposable container and then throw it in the garbage.
