Wax dipped sticks for rainy day starts. Heat a cast iron skillet, flip it over on to a matching skillet, put a small fire on top and you have a home made dutch oven. Pizzas and corn bread. Aloha

I cook with a rocket stove. Living on a farm we have plenty of wood but it is so nice to have charcoal for the stove. Just drop it in the hole & light. It heats quick & burns longer than wood & doesn't smoke up the pots as much. For tall stock pots (like 2 or 3 gallons of soup) a wind skirt 3 x's as tall as the one that came with the stove can be easily made from bending a thin sheet of metal, sending heat up the side of that soup pot making cooking quicker and using less fuel.

So you use charcoal in your rocket stove? I was wondering how that would workout
@MrBeckett7411 жыл бұрын
Seems like you used a bit too much wood. The stove looks awesome though. Keep it going, I love your videos.

Also I used DD (dumpster dove) metal grill table so I don't have to bend over. Radio is in the lid of a DD round top grill cover. It focus the sound at my head. I can listen 24/7 brothers no one. I live in a small town with close houses.

I make the perfect fire for ease. Long wood branches bottom 2 small bag of corn chips (expired dumpster)then charcoal to the top. I use a battery fan to get through the smoke session .Oh most importantly the radio, I've managed to keep them recharge with a small solar panel. I'll recharge one use the other. When I bought fans, radio, rechargeable 2 is 1 and 1is none .

Obviously, the amount of wood placed into the stove will determine the final heat generated. I notice that you put too much fuel into the stove and wound up getting a flame that's way too hot to cook with. Nonetheless, the rocket stove has its uses.

Thanks for the video. A rocket stove and a solar stove, would be a good combo.

I know, and I've tried a couple times, but it looks like I have to get a new PC to make more vids. This one crashes every time I try

Wonder why they don't make a smaller adjustable sleeve for pans? Also, how do you keep it from sliding?

Haven’t tried it myself yet but my brother has a similar stove and he makes a shorter ring just out of tinfoil. He says it works well.

Does that extra grate maybe go into the top hole?
@Enchanted3DPrints Жыл бұрын
I cant figure out why but looks like maybe it would fit there too. Just doing my yearly check to see if we have any new Fencekid videos and rewatching the oldies

coal or briquettes works better than wood. It will actually cook. wood is good for eggs or bacon or boiling water. the extra grate is for coal or briquettes. when TSHTF, if someone smells smoke, they are coming to you.

Its a wood stove and the only way to control the heat it’s by taking the pan off the flame per example a rocket stove the heat it’s pretty much control by a vent that you can open or close to control the heat in a wood stove it’s a lot more difficult to get a idea of how much wood you will need since you are relying on wood more than air to keep the flame strong it can be used but it probably would take more time and wood to cook with it….

keep the doors closed to get the stack effect and wood boil effect, otherwise its just a hole to put wood in and burn inneficiently

We want to get one, but our kids have asthma. We are concerned about the amount of smoke. It doesn't help that we are allergic to practically everything outdoors, lol.

too bad there's no rockety sound in a most of these "rocket stoves". I question if these should even be called that.. it's basically just a campfire in a metal cylinder. And as he says in the video "half the flame is coming out of the mouth of the unit"... therefore there is ZERO rocket effect taking place.

No offense meant...but you really did overload the wood into the stove. Made your flame too high, and very much overcooked the egg. The whole point of the rocket stove is to minimize the amount of fuel needed.
@toddkohut59932 жыл бұрын
I think he also put the pan on too soon. The stove wasn’t really going yet.

I want to make a suggestion. I have a Solo stove. From using it I have learned something. Never use your wife's or girlfriends pots and pans. These stoves get the outside of your cookware all blackened up. It's almost impossible to remove.
@loriannwilde50185 жыл бұрын
we rub the outside of our pots/pans with dishsoap before use, and it cleans off all the black afterwards
@johannalange8025 жыл бұрын
Too high and too yellow a flame will do this. Higher temps with fewer flame will help.

An egg cooks in one minute. That one was burned beyond consumption.

Depends on your opinion on how you like your egg
@MrBogeyone10 жыл бұрын
Don't know anyone that eats egg crisps. LOL Try removing it from the heat and then replacing it in order to control cooking temps.

Also, a heat diffuser plate placed on top of the stove would help diffuse the excess heat.
