I remember during Desert Storm there were all these hamburger stands, along the main supply routes, that offered Wolf Burgers. They were manned by soldiers. They were free, and you could have as many as you wanted. They weren't the greatest burgers but they sure were welcomed.

Being an ex RAF chef I love this. The young lady providing fine food at altitude is brilliant, so glad the US Army let her have some freedom to create. It's so far different from the in-flight catering we used to give out from Brize Norton UK. THUMBS UP GUYS. 🇬🇧👍

I don’t know the guy making the pizzas, but I do recognize the patch on his arm…That’s the 6th ARS from Travis.. and that was the squadron I was in when I started flying KC-10’s down at March AFB in 1994. I transferred to Travis in 1995 with the 6th, then went to the 70th ARS as a pilot in the reserves in 1999… I got out in 2011 after being a KC-10 pilot for 17 of my 22 years in the USAF…I miss the jet immensely, but not all the time on the road… My respects and admiration to all these guys/gals who still do this…

I think the MRE’s were pretty good, all things considered. They were so much better than the C rations we had when I first joined the Army in 1980. We would take the cans we wanted out of the packs and put them in green wool socks strapped to the outside of our rucksacks. That way they didn’t take up room inside the rucksack and they didn’t make noise.

The only rest you get is standing in line for the food, eating the food, and moving out. I'm not so sure about the resting part as that was not my experience. I remember in Alaska that by the time you got through the hot line for the food, it was cold before you could eat it. In our case, that tent was not present. Plus, you do not always get three meals as that depends on the unit mission.

I have a Army 3 burner Coleman stove that I found at a 2nd hand store. Huge Samsonite suitcase Coleman with wide spread burner tubes, for big Army kettles. It has a cooking utensil arm to hold utensils off to the side, but close by. I replaced the cap seal, cleaned out the jet area, repacked the gas valve with new graphite valve packing. A new leather cup on the end of the air pump. Wiped it down and reassembled. Fresh white gas and away it went. All 3 burners roaring again. I used it on the 4th for our Seafood Boil.

the key in all of this is the middle eastern bread which im assuming is lebanese, lebanese bread makes the best bases for a military made pizza rather than the chain store bought supermarket bases, as they are much more tasty, crispy and less clunky than the traddional pre made pizza bases and thats why smith's dishes are so highly prized among his compatriots.

These people are in the military. They’re not concerned about all the culture and origins of the food, just preparing an edible meal for the troops. 😮The old Russia when it was the Soviet Union half-starved their soldiers. Kasha, a piece of white bread, and tea were breakfast. Lunch and dinner was a small scoop of potatoes with pork fat, watery soup, and a piece of black bread. On tank day, maybe a small piece of fatty steak with rice and coffee. Many young soldiers supplemented their diets with their meager earnings with apples or candy from the canteen.
