I married in 1984 and learned to cook from two bellsouth cookbooks I got for my wedding. I literally wore the cover off one and they were splattered with all sorts of stains. lol

My Granny was a Tidewater Virginia cook. Remember oyster stews at Thanksgiving. She had a cute kitchen with a tucked away pantry. Succotash pints on every shelf. Came across a Rumford Baking powder recipe card. Printed in 1933 with a US patent number 1,912,984. Looks like a salesman's sample. Have tried several of the recipes and they were good.

My mom used to cut bread in cubes and fry with the chopped boiled leftover potatoes in bacon drippings...this stretched the few left over potatoes. This was a family favorite. Thanks for bringing back this memory. Yes I would definitely frame it, it is a beautiful picture. Y'all have a Blessed day.

Oh Miss Lori. Thank you for a trip down memory lane. I remember most of these cook books from my grandmothers kitchen. Sometimes she would pull them out and say “help me find something good to make for dinner tonight”. I must admit it’s brought a tear to my eye. I would like to get my hands on that Potluck Favorites. I look forward every week to your cooking with cook books. Take care and God bless.

I am 77 years old and still have some of the cooking pamphlets that were handed out in my home ec classes. Most of them were from food companies.

I have many from early 1900's an the recipes are delightful. But I learned how to cook from a wedding gift. Betty Crocker taught me everything. It wasn't until I had kids that I started expanding my knowledge. Have many of the Pillsbury baking cooking. Used to be a dollar. But 60 years later I still use some of those recipes. Lots of time they call for items that are no longer made.

I sure do remember those little pamphlets! And your description of a shopping trip was spot on, mirroring my own life when the kids were so small! But, believe it or not, I miss those days. It seems my life was so much calmer, even with the little running around. ❣️❣️💖👍🏼 Thanks so much for stirring the pot of memorie#! 😊

Family living is a definite one to try on video. I have many of the booklets from the 40's. Some of the product brands are no longer on the market. Mono sodium glutimate is msg...something many people cannot tolerate. It's not used in everyday cooking, except in many Asian foods. Please keep doing these older pamphlet visits, it's fun to reminisce. Thank you Miss Lori. God bless 😊

So neat to see. The old timey pictures bring back memories of my grandmas and when family was all together. That was neat about dipping stale bread in water or milk and baking on low, and reheating biscuits in a paper bag. I only saw jiffy pie crust and blueberry muffin mix other than cornbread. We went to Hershey Park and Chocolate World every year, was a blast & great memories! 🍫Enjoyed Ms Lori, I like stuff about the good ole days! 😊🧡🍂 Blessings!

For several years as a young married lady, the only cookbook I owned was a paperback Better Homes and Gardens. Later I got the spriral bound and it got me through for many years before I started picking up one here and there. Our little town was also putting out church cookbooks left and right through the 80's and 90's too, so I had a good little collection of those. As the years went by I started checking out used bookstores and thrift stores...now there's Amazon and I'm swamped!

I have a "Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book." It was given to me at my bridal shower in 1968. I have used it a lot over the years, and it is stained and dog-eared. I recently referred to it for scalloped potatoes. I have many other cookbooks but none earlier than the fifties. Love your channel and you and Mr Brown. My family and I are originally from eastern KY, but I grew up in northeastern Ohio. My husband, children, and I moved to VA in 1986. We love it.

WOW!!! I would Love for you to make something from your JIFFY COOKBOOK. I Think that would be awesome to frame that picture of that lady on the front page of your little cookbook. It’s SO VINTAGE and reminds me of yester year. I am an old soul. I am from the 60’s era. My father raised my sister and I, and i remember he had One cookbook that i would thumb through it all the time. I started cooking at a very young age. I really enjoyed it. I don’t remember what happened to that cookbook and it really bugs me that I didn’t keep up with it. I was going into the 5th grade when I found a Meatloaf recipe in there and made a whole meal. It was a Saturday afternoon and my dad was napping when i decided to make supper on my own. I was thankful for that cookbook. My meatloaf came out perfect 👌🏼 He woke up and looked around asking me who cooked supper and i told him I had cooked it. He was quite surprised

Raising kids is expensive! Our poorest days were when the kids were still home. That's why now that they are grown, & if we're out together, & I see them admire or want something, it does my heart good if they will let me buy it for them. Not that I'm rich now, (still poor) but not as poor as when they were young. One of my favorite pastimes, over the years, has been to look through old cookbooks. I love any recipe using Jiffy Mix. One of my favorites is cornbread salad. I would frame that Fleischmann cover too! I love it! You have a treasure in all those old recipe books & pamphlets.

I got married young and couldn't cook a lick...(my mother was not a cook and she died when I was 13). We started out eating boxed or frozen meals then I finally bought a Betty Crocker cookbook and taught myself how to cook. I still have that book, 42 years later! If the internet existed back in those days it certainly would have helped young wives/mothers like myself. But now i get to watch people like yourself make recipes and read the reviews and have found some great recipes without the trial and error of recipes from cookbooks. My mother in law used to always buy those pamphlets at the checkout counter. I also have bought some and need to go through them one of these days. I would love for you to make any recipes from your old cookbooks....the older the better in my opinion just so we can compare it to today's recipes that are same or similar. Way back when I first got married l would notice a lot of companies would have recipe booklets you could send off for with proof of purchase and maybe a small fee....I don't see much of that anymore. Thank you for showing us some of your booklets and I am looking forward to watching you try some recipes. And a big yes from me to frame that Fleischman booklet...it's beautiful! 😊

Happy Friday Miss Lori. I remember as a child hello being our affordable desert. We got to pick which flavor !! Sometimes my mom would add can fruit ( not my favorite ) and find a pretty mild to put it in. I can’t remember the name of the jello made with apples walnuts celery and a touch of cinnamon and whip cream. They still make that one. I liked that one because I love apple salad. Anything with beets sounds amazing. These are precious books. A little history and little food recipes and a few pictures all to document how life was in those days. No wonder you love them. Thanks for sharing. I say let’s adventure through them.

I loved this. It brought back memories. One of my favorite cookbooks i found at a yardsale or fleamarket. Its called the Harvest table. Another favorite was our elementary school collected recipes from all the families and they printed a book to sale to parents . When our kids were growing up money was definitely tight. Now as a grandma I see them doing as we did , we have a family messenger sight. With groceries being as expensive as they are , weve began sharing recipes on our page to make meals to stretch that dollar further.

I would love to hear some of the recipes in the Almond cookbook. My granny use to make a shortbread cookie that had almonds in it. I would love to run across it! They were my favorite! I still have and use my bundt pan that came with the Bundt cake mix when they first came out. The pan was free if you bought the mix. That pan has made many cakes over the years!

I have my mom’s Ball cookbook. It’s in bad shape since we used it a lot and my best friend did too. It’s a sodium glutamate used to enhance flavor.

Ms Lori, I am enjoying your cookbook series. Had never seen the Jiffy cookbook but have used the Jiffy biscuit/baking mix for many years. It was 39 cents a box for many years. Makes the best biscuits and drop dumplings. Interesting to learn of the Jiffy recipes. Hush puppies sound yummy. Have many cookbooks and especially like the ones published by church groups.

I have a fig "bush", it's too small to call a tree. This was the first year that I got a good yield from it and it has been planted at least 5 years. I always got a few, but this year I have probably picked 200 figs from it.
