@lokihuskey6284

Stroke of something, not sure about genius though. They get rinsed off by the cute little Purell pump sprayer, then go in the cup holder to dry? Don't they just end up getting salt sprayed while you're still fishing? You can't just wait until you're off the water to rinse everything off, like everyone's done since the dawn of man? Lol

Thanks for the break down. Nice setup. What were the two new rod/reels mentioned?
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 7 жыл бұрын
Both are Shimano Expride rods: 6'8 MH casting and 7'2 MH spinning, reels are the Curado 70 and the Ballistic 2500LT. I've used both setups last year a few times, so far I can say that the Expride rods are definitely a step above the Zodias in terms of weight/balance/sensitivity. I'm thinking about doing a rod/reel arsenal review at some point, but it's difficult since rods especially are very subjective.
@ReinaldoMiguel
@ReinaldoMiguel 7 жыл бұрын
Cooking and Fishing thanx, looking forward to seeing how the 70 performs on the salt.
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 7 жыл бұрын
actually, I've used the JDM version of the 70 (scorpion) for 2 seasons, it held up fine. The only thing with any baitcaster in the salt: you should grease that main shaft bearing, the one sometimes referred to as the "bastard bearing" lol...water accumulates there and have nowhere to drain.

Great video! I have the i12s and learned alot from you video on how to rig an inflatable Hobie. Did you have a custom cut yellow floor mat on there?
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 6 жыл бұрын
I believe that's how the new hulls come...which imo is not great for fishing (maybe for the SUP paddling?) Blood/slime gets in the cracks and after hosing down it takes a long time for the foam mat to dry. I much prefer the earlier version with minimal foam decking!
@HazardousCliff
@HazardousCliff 6 жыл бұрын
It looks like there's alot of traction on there, but for standing on. But I can see how it's easy for stuff to get stuck in there.Have you though about using Marine grade/outdoor velcro to secure those cargo mats?
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 6 жыл бұрын
yeah honestly, I wish there were zero foam decking on the i11s, the boat will dry in minutes and I can fold it up after a trip without waiting around. The single point bungee lash to the paddle clip works well on the car mats, since I don't stand on the mats they can have a little movement. They are velcroed to each other.

Mainly for storage reasons, and ease of transport. Hi Roger: Very good video on the Hobie kayak, and the gear you use. Do you have a preference for a PFD, while kayak fishing? Thanks. Ed
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed, I personally wear an Onyx inflatable PFD, it's auto/manual and I converted it to manual deployment. I don't think there is any doubt that "traditional," non-inflatable flotation devices are considered most safe...but I find them too cumbersome to fish with. I do own a NRX Chinook PFD, which is relatively comfortable, but I only wear that when I know I'm traveling through rough, open water (which is to say, very rarely).

@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the itrek11 - supposedly more durable material and construction, lighter, center chamber takes higher psi (10 I believe), new rudder system that detaches from the boat entirely - however, the seat looks like a downgrade, and they removed the KU MD180 into a NON 180 drive, which is ridiculous.

@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 7 жыл бұрын
Haha you made me look up "windage." If you mean how bad it catches the wind...not terrible. The hull is low profile, but it's also very light, so you will get pushed around a bit...but that's what mirage drives are for!

@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 7 жыл бұрын
Well it takes me forever...esp with rinsing down my rods/mirage drive/kayak. I'd say at least 30 minutes to set up and 40ish to take down, but that all depends on how much gear you're taking and how OCD you are with your gear. I've seen videos of guys being in the water within 10 minutes, from taking their i11s out of the bag!
@royaladjemian5801
@royaladjemian5801 6 жыл бұрын
It depends on your gear and how you inflate the I 11 . I use an electric pump to pump the center compartment and fill the wing compartments with Hobie's supplied pump . Attach seat, mirage drive, paddle, safety gear, rods, and basket behind seat. I have a bad back and get it done in 10 to 15 minutes. I am also 69 years old going on 18. All the best.

Just sold my '17 PA 14 so that I'd use the i11s more. Did you pick up a 2018 hull? I'm jealous of all the additional mat they added in front, probably after you had yours punctured. Hoping to turn some heads in the tournament scene this year being the only SUP or inflatable fishing tournaments.
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 7 жыл бұрын
haha tbh, I wish they hadn't added the foam mat...blood/slime gets in the grooves and it takes forever to dry after washing, also it's adding unnecessary weight. Hobie did replace my hull because the mirage well cracked, not sure how it happened but I sent in a photo and they sent me a new hull. So far I have nothing but good things to say about that company. That PA 14 is a beast! You're going from their heaviest yak to their lightest!

I think it varies from person to person, for me if it's over 15mph sustained I'm sleeping in. Been out in some 2-3ft chop, a lot depends on wind direction too along with tide; 10mph east wind in certain areas of RB on an outgoing tide can become almost unfishable, whereas on incoming it's a nice drift speed!

After watching this I don't want a inflatable. (That fish really put a hole in it?) Damn I went fishing and came back during this video.

it's rather basic compared to some other yaks. My friend's PA14 is decked out like a battleship lol...

Why does everything Hobie have to be so damn expensive. The Fishsup 126 is a fraction of the cost and is just as functional.
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 4 жыл бұрын
Not nearly as functional w/o a pedal system, but I agree that it's a lot to pay for an inflatable. Until one of the other pedal yak companies introduce this form factor, Hobie has the only pedal-driven inflatable lineup in the business.

@@CookingandFishing just put a trolling motor on the back. Save a ton of money and you could operate it while standing with a handle extension.

Nah you'll never get the level of boat control with a stern mounted TM vs pedal drive, it'll get you from point A to B but forget about holding position in wind/current while fishing. Spot locking TMs bow mounted, yes.

@@CookingandFishing for the price of that hobie you could get a full spot lock rig on other boats. Their stuff is just overpriced

@@tray22 just the TM tho, not the boat + trolling motor. Then you gotta fork over for batteries, lithium will run you a pretty penny. And some people (myself included) enjoy not having to deal with a motor of any kind. But ultimately I don't disagree. The only solution is for more competition in the inflatable + pedal market, and right now there is only one game in town. FWIW the i11s is an incredible fishing platform, for more than just its ease of storage/transport.

Really nice, but nope. Can you imagine a fish full of trebles near that thing? lol
@CookingandFishing

and that's why I don't use trebles or double hook rigs, at all, on my inflatable kayak!
