You’ve definitely mastered that jerk shad. I would think a 4/0 big head would be better suited for the 6” shad, no?
@CookingandFishing3 ай бұрын
That gammy 1/4oz 3/0 is perfect. You don't want too long a shank that will kill the action of the bait.

Very interesting about the switch bite, I think there is a ton of truth to that.

Are you using the same rod and reel that you use from the surf? I love the videos. I also have a question about the course you offer. Do I receive videos to download on my computer so I can watch them more than once?
@CookingandFishing5 күн бұрын
Same 7'6 rod/reel, the online course will be available for you to stream forever, as many times as you like

Hi roger, so glad to see you demonstrating the jigging method from a boat. I purchased your course hoping you would have some boat footage. Question how do you deal with the sun glare on the phone on the navionics app. Heading up tomorrow for 10 days to my friends island cabin on crotch lake ont ca. Ok enjoyed your video as always. Tight lines..... walt

Oh roger just wanted to tell you enjoyed your guest visit with nj multifish podcast. I also purchased your jigging blades both silver and colored. Fish on !
@CookingandFishing3 ай бұрын
@@walterkonopacki5860 Haha thanks Walt!! Re phone glare - it's difficult but most modern phones you can dial up the brightness setting but it does drain batteries quicker. The Ontario vacation sounds lovely - and you're not missing anything with the current fluke bite!

For the new Shimano reels, do you hand spool them or use a machine?
@CookingandFishing3 ай бұрын
New or old I hand spool with a cheap berkley spooling station - do NOT lay the filler spool on a table/floor and let the line coil off the spool - spool it like a baitcaster

great video but I don't know if I'd want to fish with Roger.....lol.

If you let the swing or “switch” go too far, past a couple bounces, I will likely get a sea robin…they hit if you let it drag too far. In freshwater streams, top of the swing, is also when trout hit spinners or streamers-the moment they are stationary
@CookingandFishing3 ай бұрын
yup - robins, weeds...all sorts of bad things if you let it drag behind the drift too long. Just 2-3 bounces past the bow or stern of the boat and you're good to rinse/repeat.

Would you be able to put a link/video to your surf pole holder? I love how convenient that thing is and how light it seems.

That one I built myself for the kayak - tool crate + trac mount + ram ball rod holders

When in current I often net the fluke with the net down current of the fish and let the current drift the fish backwards into the net as was seen at 1:09. The net bag is out of the way and the fluke does not see the net. One of the best net jobs I've seen recently. "With no trolling motor you're at the mercy of the wind and current"... well actually no. Once the fish are found just throw out the anchor, stand up and fish as you would from a pier.
@CookingandFishing3 ай бұрын
That only works if the fish is small enough to fit into the net backwards! And there is no fing way I'm anchoring that skiff lol

I noticed you are not mentioning the Mastercraft Ceana as a budget rod. Do you not use it anymore ?
@CookingandFishing3 ай бұрын
Yeah unless I'm reviewing a rod I'm using my Steez AGS (the Ceana is in my car as a backup however).

Where can these skiffs be rented? You mentioned all over the Tri State area. Please let me know Thanks
@CookingandFishing3 ай бұрын
Just google Fishing Boat Rentals [state] and you'll find a few.
@michaelmoran53183 ай бұрын
May be a stupid question, but how are you renting skiffs like that?
@CookingandFishing3 ай бұрын
You go to the rental places (fisherman's den, ted's, Jack's bait/tackle, silly lily etc) and they'll set you up with a short info session on how to operate motor and definitely pay attention to all the safety tips if you've never done this before.
