This is the best Flounder and Fluke catching channel on the internet. Period! Hands down. I just ordered 2 packs each of the DJB and C&F spinner blades. Wish me luck!

I'm really enjoying these videos. I've treid many techniques over the years but not this one with such a light jig. Im going to give it a go. Hope it works in Long Island sound waters. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not. What waters do you primarily fish?

The single jig fished properly will do great in LIS.

I had a VIOLENT hit and missed the fish but it pulled my spinner blade right off the gulp. They definately attract fish when nothing else is working, just ordered 2 more packs.

Lately I've been jigging for fluke on an ultralight and it's super fun. 9' ultralight fast daiwa presso, Daiwa crossfire LT 2000, 6lb J braid, 20lb mono leader, size 1 hook on a 7g cheb rig with a 3" gulp mullet. The largest I've caught on it so far is a 22" fluke
@CookingandFishing3 ай бұрын
that sounds fun! Don't know why you're going so heavy on the leader tho

Switched from a traditional fluke rig to a jerk shad single jig and been doing very well. Next is the crankbaits.

Excellent!! Just remember that the crankbait/jerkbait stuff is fun but highly situational, while the single jig/gulp works 99% of the time!

Outstanding video. I was wondering if you were loosening your drag after the hook up on some of the better fish? Any idea on the water temp you were fishing? The upwelling has been killing the bite down my way in SJ
@CookingandFishing4 ай бұрын
"strike" drag is pretty tight, if the fish shows promise drag gets backed off until it's less than half of strike setting. No clue re temps but it was much colder than normal. Hopefully it is the cold water and not something else...better days ahead!

I see all ur videos always fishing at low water level or low tide on clean water. do u have any videos fishing at deep water with dirty and muddy water? cuz my fishing spot is always like that...😢

I’m in LBI right now and i tried single jig jerkshad, grub, and even those spoons you made. The water is like ice water and nothing is biting, i fished the deep pockets in the surf for days and nothing came up. Gonna try the bay tomorrow, any tips?
@CookingandFishing4 ай бұрын
It's an absolute grind down there from what I hear - def try the bay, try inlets, make sure your jig is gliding near the bottom if the water temps are still low make your pops a little smaller they're not going to chase far off the bottom

nice, were any of these clips out front? I heard a bit of a stop in the south wind last Sunday morning helped with the fluke bite although all shorts.

Hey Roger. Can you elaborate why you prefer Sunline Sniper FC as opposed to other flouro for leader? I understand this is a Japanese product. Thx!
@CookingandFishing3 ай бұрын
Sniper is what I settled on for straight fluoro on many of my freshwater setups - leftover spools become leader material. It knots well, has decent abrasion resistance, and so far I haven't had one mishap with sniper from 4 to 25lb.

Hey could you slightly angle your cam up so we can see your rod tip for the hook set. I notice that I lose fish by setting my hook too soon, I feel like the fish have not completely committed to bite and I'm just yanking it out of their mouth. The times when I give it a little more time, I've had a few shorts hooked deep and I get really depressed when I have to do surgery on them. I know there's a sweet spot and I try to see your timing but most of the time I can only see the bottom part or your rod. BTW, your spinner blades are a real game changer. Its catching on like wild fire along with your single jig technique. I hope they name this after you.
@CookingandFishing4 ай бұрын
Never "let them eat" - set the hook immediately after feeling a bite, anything you miss is a short (and a micro short at that). Here's the video for you to watch - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooeknoWMg7eHh6c

how can you tell condition wise when to either use the single jig, or the jerkbait? i’ve been trying jerkbaits that sink, float, suspend but the only fish i catch is on the single jig. any tips will help 👍
@CookingandFishing4 ай бұрын
Here's the thing - there's a lot that goes into jerkbait fishing. Each jerkbait has its own range of cadences that it likes to stay within, how you tweak the float rate matters depending on the bite, and rod angles matter too depending on how steep/shallow the slope you're fishing is. On top of that, the fish aren't always in a mood to chase a jerkbait - when they are it can be lights out but at the end of the day it's pretty situational. Mastering the JB takes time and solid feedback from the fish. I would locate active fish with the single jig/gulp first and when you know the bite is on try your hand at the jerkbait. Don't start with the jerkbait start with jig/gulp.
