I loved my 22-150 s/n 3297 manufactured in Sept. 1960, which I owned from 2004 through 2014. Great adventures, lots of grass and gravel strips, mountain or lake or sea side alike.

The glorious Flying Milking Stool. A grand little machine which is pretty affordable these days. When they were intoduced in the UK they were marketed through a company at my local airfield so i got to see a lot of them. The type that gave me my love of flying as it's the first type i ever flew in.

When I was 9 years old my dad was getting recurrent after a 10 year hiatus from flying. He was getting using a Tri-pacer that the flight school had. He was practicing take-offs and landings one day while I watched from the ground, when he taxied in a little prematurely. When he got out of the plane he had the throttle in his hand. Apparently, when he went to chop power for landing the throttle cable broke and the throttle came off in his hand. He went into the office and laid it on the desk of the instructor and said "You forgot to tell me what to do when this happens!" I didn't fully appreciate that until about 10 years later when I was working on my Commercial and I was using a 1953 (Same year I was born) Tri-Pacer to build time in. You definitely want to have the runway made when you chop power. My dad learned in the 1940's when energy management was taught. No dragging in with power.

Really enjoyed your video, as it sure brought back a lot of memories. In 1956 (a year after I made my first solo), I transitioned from a J-3 Cub to a Tri-Pacer. OMG! I had my hands full.

First plane I ever flew in too Kent. I would have been around 6 or 7. Dad had just gotten his license and would rent one at the local airport in Sidney, Ohio to fly to shooting events around the region for Gun Week newspaper. He also rented it a few times for family trips. Mom, Dad, and 4 of us kids squeezed into that thing all the way to Texas. Dad and I flew up to Camp Perry for the Nationals one year and he offered to let me hop over the lake in the last Ford Tri-motor in commercial service, but I wasn't willing to trust anyone but Dad at the time, so I didn't take the ride.

I started flying in a Cessna 140. Then went to a Piper Colt and from there to a Tri-Pacer. Compared to the 140 the trip pacer flew like a stone. It flew fine as long as you had power, but when you cut the power to land you best be prepared to lanf, because it was coming down.
