I just sent my boxed cake off. SUCCESS! THANK YOU for the video. Very helpful and informative. It works. 4 hrs ago I put random frozen stuff in it to chill till boxing time and when i opened box, it was close to very cold. Only change I made was using my decorative foil I had on hand. Mylar wrap was a bit too pricey for me and for this experiment. So, I used a 13x16 brown box. Placed 12x12 cake box inside of brown box. Padded the side with wrapped styrofoam then placed 4 frozen bottles of water in each corner. Sealed box and sent it off with client.

I use walmart shipping boxes and non slip pads underneath. Easy and cheap. Also use aluminum duck tape

2+1/2 years later, I stumbled upon this video--the 4th in a lineup compiled by YT when I searched, how to transport a cake... I'm a grandmother living in the northern woods of Maine...and being crafty I have taken on the baking of special cakes for special occasions--mostly for our grandchildren--7 of whom live in Maine...but only one is local to us, all the others are 2.5-3 hrs away mostly on secondary roads...Why would I take this challenge on...Several of us live in remote areas where you can't just order a cake...(Even the nearest Walmart is 1.5 hrs. away... My greatest challenge has been transporting the finished cakes and having them arrive in one piece...Since I'm not a pro, not even a novice or a cake hobbyist, but I am pretty innovative, this box is a perfect solution to my problem as I gear up to deliver a "Baby Shark, do, do, do, do" themed cake for a 4 year old at the end of January 2020. Every year that my grandkids get older, they become more discerning/picky... So thank you CraziCakes for a very clear step by step tutorial on the construction of this box... It's going to be my "best friend" in about 2 weeks, and for as long as I'm making the family's celebration cakes... !!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

Good idea, could i put dry ice inside the box for longer trips and how can i level the box in the front seat. Thank you.

Gabriela A. I would put the ice underneath the cake in the bottom of the box, making sure it is level. I use non skid material between my box and car to make sure the box doesn’t slide. It works perfectly. I don’t ever recommend setting it in the seat but if you must be sure it’s level and use the non skid material.

I have a question: the directions at the beginning state the styrofoam slabs thickness was 1 and 1/4 in. thick , then at the end when packing the thickness is written as 1 and 3/4 in. thick. Just wondering which thickness is it suppose to be ?

Debbie Rak Oh no that must be a typo. It is 1 1/4. I’m hoping to get a better quality video done soon when I’ll be making a bigger box. It has worked so well I want another larger one.

Hi Kara m, I use non skid material. If you notice in the picture it shows a beige mat under the cake boxes. That is a large non skid may that you would buy to hold a large rug in place, new of course.
