@@CatGreatcircle And what maximum speed could you develop on your catamaran?
@CatGreatcircle2 жыл бұрын
Max speed doesn’t tell a lot as it will be surfing down a wave. On our Lagoon we once reached 27 knots in a F10 storm. On our Outremer our current max is just over 25 knots in way calmer conditions

How long was the crossing? Who in the fleet had the fastest time?. That was some smooth sailing! I love the shot of Greatcircle cutting through the waves.
@CatGreatcircle2 жыл бұрын
Difficult to compare as boats had very different conditions depending on their departure date. The fastest crossing was by O55 Saga who spent 4,5 days on big winds during the whole trip. We did 5 days and 7 hours including motoring for 46 hours at low rpm. Our average speed sailing was again between 9,5 and 10 knots as usual
@greatpix2 жыл бұрын
@@CatGreatcircle That was quite a bit faster than Curiosity/ The Wynns did a year ago. I think they were 9 days. Looks like Outremer for the win. (I almost typed Wynn).
@CatGreatcircle2 жыл бұрын
Aren’t they getting a new cat as well? Biggest problem with longer crossing times is the limited weather windows and lower forecast reliability. Quite decent storms over here, another 50 knots plus system approaching the bay of islands in the coming days

Did Outremer send someone out from France to fix the rudder? Who paid for it?
@CatGreatcircle Жыл бұрын
Someone flew in as part of the rally to provide support to several boats but the actual repair of the rudder was done by a local (Nick). Total cost well within our excess at the insurance so materials and work out of our own pocket 🥲
@robertlaird67462 жыл бұрын
It looks like you didn't use any bottom paint on the repairs. Why?
@laurence96952 жыл бұрын
Well done! It's not an easy crossing.
@CatGreatcircle2 жыл бұрын
Choosing a safe weather window meant a lot f motoring unfortunately, especially as we had to wait for Elisa another day. Very short waves though in the first night. Very intense weather systems are passing NZ on a regular basis but as the trip only takes 5 days it should be able to find a decent window

Owning a toy like this is for those who have a lot of money
@CatGreatcircle8 ай бұрын
Looking at the cost over 3 years including depreciation I would say that this has been equal or even lower than even the standard production cats. I would say “a toy” is not the best description of our house during these years.
