Great content and editing. I changed out my standing rigging (48' Cat) while at anchor in Mo'orea. Removing the forestay to untangle the spinnaker would have been much easier and quicker and maybe even saved a good sail. I used two halyards to support rig while changing out all of the stays. It was a two person job (wife and I). I appreciate all of your great work and sailing footage is awesome.
@CatGreatcircle5 күн бұрын
Yes we considered taking off the forestay but didn’t do it as we thought Cocos / Keeling in 25 knots might not be the right place to do it.
@dentonearnhardt98914 күн бұрын
Got it. I guess we are less willing to destroy thousands of dollars in sails. I have had to remove forestays twice while at anchor for replacement or fixing furler foil. Pretty basic for future issues. Keep up the great work.

Hello Mark and Marika, we regularly follow all your videos, so well done, interesting and inspiring! Your experience and calm, also in complex situation, is an example for all us sailors. I have a question for you: I have seen in many video of yours that you have been very happy with your 140 sqm S3 heavy weather symmetric SPI.. Inspired by your experience, we would like to purchase the same kind of sail to help us on our first Atlantic crossing. Which material is your S3 done with: Maxilite 150 or Stormlite 210? Your feedback would be highly valuable for us. Thank you very much in advance and my wife and myself hope to cross path with you in a nice anchorage one day

The documentation I found says 160//185m2 stormlite polyester 2.2 oz If you contact us on insta or facebook (catgreatcircle) I can send you a picture of the specs

We didn’t experience a lot of difference between the standard antifouling Outremer uses and the seajet 039 or the jutil? Stuff they put on in mackay. All ok.

Looks amazing, question: is it necessary to sail with both daggerboards down in these conditions? Grtz
@CatGreatcircle2 ай бұрын
@@hansh8071 hey Hans you mean downwind or upwind. Upwind might have been just lazy downwind we are used to stick them just a little bit in to catch floating stuff first as there are no skegs.

@rodsimmons31012 ай бұрын
@@BoxdHound Mark, music can be great, but less can be more. There is nothing wrong with the sound of just the wind, waves, and sails. The voiceover then takes on its own importance. I talk with the experience of making the same mistake.

@rodsimmons3101 Marijke doesn’t like the camel driver either but I kind of like it and it fits nice with Morocco 🇲🇦. And don’t underestimate how difficult it is to get decent audio footage in plenty of wind and waves. I know all bad excuses, I just like the music under the images and we don’t earn a single euro with the channel so I kind of like to make the videos the way I like 😇

Very nice. I love to see the motions of the boat, very gentle. I wonder though what is your experience with pitching as the bows are as sleek as my Tornado’s.

Of course the bigger the boat the more motion comfort but the 52 felt really comfortable even in annoying cross waves

Is that the standard set up for winches, foresails and wheel on the 52 or just new boat and not tuned? Seems a bit short for such a boat and outremers experience? Or just watched too many of Marc’s rapid sail changes on GC 😂
@CatGreatcircle2 ай бұрын
I expect that the position of the winches themselves can’t be changed but that the deck layout in terms of routing of the lines can be changed. I’ve seen different setups on different 52’s

In a catamarn's name, does the number indicate the length of the boat, or is it something else? For instance, XYZ boat 32; does that indicate the boat is 32 feet? Silly question but I was curious :)
@CatGreatcircle2 ай бұрын
Most of the time, sometimes meters and sometimes brands think it makes sense to exaggerate a bit (eg Saona 47 isn’t even 46 foot)

with a build date in 2027 why not doing some Med Cruising or winters in the Caribbean etc... Do you need to sell Great Circle to retain your build slot with a large down payment or something? Or do you just miss land life that you want to take a few year break?
